So I just got a new Matco vacuum gauge and decided to monkey around with it on my car before I stuff it into my box at work.
I connected the hose to the cylinder-looking thing directly above the brake booster vacuum check valve.
It measured a steady vacuum of about 18.5 to 20 in-Hg
The needle slowly wavers back and forth between 18.5 and 20. It takes about 1 to 1.5 seconds to go from 18.5 to 20 and about the same from 20 to 18.5.
I've been reading and learning a lot about what vacuum gauges can tell you and I couldn't really find my symptom described anywhere. The needle doesn't shoot back and forth rapidly so it's not a sticky valve or burned valve or anything like that.
I just replaced the spark plugs and wires.(Champion RN12YC and "Xact" brand wires... I know they aren't the best wires but will do for now).
I'm thinking it is a really small intake manifold leak. Are there any areas that like to leak with age? Or any hoses or vacuum lines that I should look for?
