it's been a while since i posted about the 1/3 mile circle track car. we have made some good headway on it and roll cage kit will be in tomorrow. we are running a 2.2 out of a 84 horizon. the car is 86 daytona converted from turbo to carb with 5 speed. i lucked out and goose gave me a flywheel that fit the 6 bolt crank, but i need some help on the carb. department. right now the motor has the orginal carb on it, we are going to need an edge on some of the other lighter cars. problem is motor needs to appear stock in this class. is there a better carb to run than the stocker but looks basicly like the stocker. is there anyone that would be willing to part with one if so? i play more with turbos so i need some help from you guys that do a lot with carb versions of our cars. we need some speed secerts and any advise that you may have. quite a few of you have helped with getting the suspension set up but we are going to need eveything from the motor that we can without looking too over stock. thanks in advance!

use the weber DGV carb it is exactly the car that Holley based the dodge and ford carbs after. this carb has the same throttle plate size (32/36mm) but does not have any emission controls and eliminates all electical controls.

thanks, allmotor! i had a feeling you would know and give me a reply. you have helped me before on this car. thanks for all the input now and before. do you know where the best place to get one is? i would like to find a used one because it would not look suspicious, too clean makes them look harder at it. if new, where from? my shop owner is helping with some of the expenses, good thing cause we are really slow at work.

Ebay is where I've bought all mine from. also try the SCCA classifieds. these are very popular carbs with the road race guys.

the most important thing about keeping a 2.2 alive in circle track is to spend a lot of time and effort on keeping oil around the pickup tube. I went thru 5 motors in 5 weeks before I got a pan/pickup tube design that prevented sucking air.

I saw few used DGAV 32/36 that came off toyota/Mazda vehicles on ebay. Both are non-electric choke version. Any issues with these if I use this instead of the ailing 5220 in my caravan?

Oh, I noticed MUCH better six screw layout on 32/36, holley used poor 5 screw layout that is prone to warping!

By the way will the MPG help much too?

One thing, is anybody selling one used? I don't want to invest too much. I going injection next year or so.

Cheers, Wizard

I am going to try to get away with using the mexican MPFI setup. Allmotor, do you have any of these parts still laying around? I've never driven such a setup, but a turbo engine without anything attached to the throttle body is substancially faster than a TBI, so if I combine the MPFI setup with a couple other little tricks on a 2.5l engine in a P-body, it will appear perfectly legal, sound 100% stock, lightweight, tough, cheap, and I think such a setup will at least give me a shot of winning.

I'm new to this, so I don't know how thorough tech inspections are if you win, but no Daytonas were ever carbureted, unless mexican ones were. I'd imagine that as long as all OEM parts are used, they probably won't have a clue where I plan to race.

Kinetic Performance in New York does a great job prepping the 5200 for circle track. Mine has the choke horn cut off and blended, but in two years they haven't pulled the air cleaner in tech.

Don't you want the DFV carb instead of the DGV? The DFV has the throttle linkage on the same side as the 5200's and the DGV is opposite.
