I'm putting to gether what seems like it may be becoming a rather popular car, the daytona 2.2 1/4 mi dirt track car. Does anybody have any idea how much gas we will use? I want as little on board as I can get away with. We run a 20 lap race and I'd like to try to do it with a two gallon tank. I'd need to get between 2.5 and 3 MPG to make this work. Does that seem reasonable?

never run that small a cell. you want to run at least 5 gallon. this posting/question/statement is very odd to say the least

didn't mean to be odd. just want to have as little gas around to leak and burn and do other bad stuff as we can. I also ask because I have a really nice 2.5 gallon cell that I'd like to use.

I used on average 3 gallons in a 20 lap race... if you get extended cautions, you need extra fuel. make sure you ONLY use a quality fuel cell with the pickup on the top of the cell and the cell in a metal can and foam. keep the cell forward of the rear bumper at least 12".. infact the more forward you can get the cell, the better the car will handle, tail swing weight is a bad and unpredictable effect in the handling department. here are pictures of some race cars I built to give you an idea of having a safe and well constructed car.
