hey, me again...aside from the carb problem, something that has gotten worse, and to the point that i cna't leave the driveway....a few weeks ago, as im driving down the road, the car would die, not sputter and stall, but just stop, i'd pull over and start the car again, and it would be fine. it would happen once a week, then 3 X a week, and now it runs for 5 mins then dies. im fairly certain that it isn't fuel related, so im thinking that it has to be something in the electrics. new cap and rotor, plugs. its an 87 omni 2.2 3 spd auto.
thanks
chris

Could be your spark control computer. Sometimes when they go bad they will work fine until they get warm/hot and then quit. If you have a spare I would try swapping it in and see what happens.

Its mounted to the body right next to the battery. There is a big air hose that goes from the computer to the airbox, makes it kinda hard to miss.
But unless you have a spare lying around or can get one cheap from a junkyard (good luck, they seem to crush L-bodies as soon as they get them), I would stick to ruling out the small stupid stuff first. The hep (distributor pickup) is always a good place to start. That thing seems to cause a lot of problems for guys on here, guess I have just been lucky.

I have one from an 84, I am not sure if 84 to 87 are interchangable tho....I also had the non feedback carb... I changed mine over to TBI/sbec setup...., If you can find out if it will work make me an offer......did you try a different coil, check f/p, fuel filter?

I have a few but I'll have to check and see if they still work, I know at least one has the problem where it will shut off warm. I might have a spare that works good though. I really don't have time to check right now, but I can look when I get back from shcool the end of next week. Also, this might be something you may want to look into... http://www.geocities.com/ngant17/VW_distrib_mod.html
Haven't tried it myself, so not sure how well it would work.

I'm glad you got it running again, it's nice to see there are some wreckers out there who don't crush our cars on sight. You might want to get the 87's module as well, cause you never know what might happen later down the road.
Best of luck,
Dan
