Hey guys, Yes I'm the noobie here. I had a 84 Shelby Red/Silver that I bought new when I was 20 something, Due to family I had to sell to get a bigger car in 90 . That was in the past, I just aquired a 85 horizon auto 80,000 miles base model and I want to bring it up to GLH form but keep it stealthy(sleeper grandma's car) . I've been lurking for a while and have found most info I need. But there are some things I'm looking for that I can't find. One is the sway bars, front and back this is not a comp car but I would like a little better hanlding, What car can I pull the bars off of, Or If I made some(I'm a machinist) where do you attach them. Two I want to go to 14" rims on the cheap alloy's 4x100. Three I want to get rid of the Computer all togther, I'm going to do the Mikuni bike carb conversion, I've read that the 1.7 Dis had mech advance, But did it have points, If not how do you connect it to the coil? Well that's about enough for now. Great forum

sway bars, front - aftermarket; GLH ; Shelby Z is the largest OE but needs a slight mod (cut a bit off each end); rear - no real OE bar; the GLH's had a stiffener added to make the rear axle more torsionally stiff; would be easy to do if you had a shop (turn the U-axle into a square with some scrap steel and a MIG); the aftermarket bars with real end links are better though

1.7 is a different motor from the 2.2 - distributor will not interchange; there is an aftermarket distributor available - mallory unilte IIRC; dont like the elctronics ? :0

look in the junkyard there are oodles of 14" 4x100 FWD wheels which will work on your omni including some nice OE ChryCo/Dodge; of course the GLHs and SCs had 15x6 wheels, they are also a popular size and cheap in the junkyard or here in the for sale section

The 1.7 mechanical distributor can be attached to the 2.2 distributor shaft...It is a points setup. Check out this thread...

Probably about the best sway bars you are going to find. As for getting rid of the computer, I am doing the same thing myself, but going in another direction. I am using a mallory 2.3L dual point distributor (same firing order as the 2.2) that I got the local vo-tech to machine down for me to fit in the 2.2 motor (can't beat free labor ). I picked up the distributor dirt cheap, and I figured I would put a pertronix unit in it. They seem to last way, way, way longer than the mallory unilite modules. By the way, welcome to the forum.
