I may have a 2.2 L 4 speed Turismo from a local guy I know. I was wonderiing how hard it would be to drop a turbo engine in there. With the 2.2 or 2.5 would I be able to just drop it in and hook up the turbo computer and stuff or would there be a problem with the transmission. Also, what vehicle would be best to get and engine out of. I would prefer the 2.5 if that would work. Thanks for the help

4-sp and the two early 5-sp transmissions worked and held up well on n/a engines but don't hold up well on a turbo setup. Neither do the stock turbo automatic trans. If you're happy with at most 200hp the auto can work and hold up but in stock form it's still a gamble. The 520 and up 5sp's can hold more power but need mods to fit a L body.

I prefer the 2.2, it's got more high-rpm power, and in a light car like a L body, the extra torq of the 2.5 just hurts traction.

what kind of mods are we talking for this tranny to work, different mounts or do you need more space or what

No, unfortunately bigger mods like cutting the floor for the 520+ cable shifted setup instead of the L body rod shift setup. I have heard some about people being able to mod the mechanical linkage setup yours has to work with a cable shifted trans but I've never seen one in person. To convert to the cable shifted setup is a bit of a hack job IMO, but doable I guess:

L-Body A-555 Swap

Unfortunately, the 4-sp is the first in a series of three low-duability transmissions mopar made. See this page for some transmission background:

DDG- The Transmission Guide

I talked with one guy who was making a solid 200hp to the wheels on his 2.2, he toasted two or three 525's before installing one with a numerically lower final drive ratio, which he says held up. Heck, even the T2 shelby chargers that used the 525 were detuned by around 30 or so ft-lbs so the trans would hold, with the 525 being stronger than your trans. The auto trans was pretty much the same way, power output was detuned for them, so I wouldn't push them overly much over stock.
