On 287 bathtub head (rebuilt head was sandblasted everywhere (but the cam bearings and headgasket surface) so the adjuster bores got sandblasted. It's ticking so loud that others farther away is looking at mine.
But I rather have quiet one. PT adjusters with 2 washer per. Sounds like I have issue with settings and using 1988 TBI 2.2 camshaft.

Sounds like I have to go back to the set of orignal adjusters handpicked best sets from 2 sets I have.

Sigh.

Cheers, Wizard

1988 TBI 2.2 camshaft
Set of PT adjusters with set of washers (2 washers per adjuster).
This is in the rebuilt 287 head (bathtub).

The rebuilder who sold me this head are rather sloppy with sandblasting job, got into everywhere (top, sides etc) except they did protect the camshaft journals but not the adjusters bores. The headgasket surface and the manifold surfaces are milled.

Well, like I said, I'm not sure how to check for correct set up with hydraulic adjusters. So I'm considering going back to stock adjusters handpicked to get all good set of 8.

Cheers, Wizard

I highly doubt the sandblasting removed enough material from the lifter bores to cause clearance problems / noise

was it quiet before the PT lifter install ?

my 92 TBI cam / PT lifter combo is pretty quiet ; and these were used lifters

is it possible your rebuilt head has swirl-head valves installed ? they are different lengths by couple mm and that might be the noise.. try swapping your stock lifters back in (dont forget to remove washers ) ; if noise goes away - so much for my theory ; otherwise could be wrong valves..
