You will spend more converting it to a 2.4 hybrid than just getting a turbo engine and dropping it in. I did a TBI to turbo swap on my 89 Daytona. Including the $100 for the car with a blown headgasket, I have maybe $700 max in it right now. Found an identical donor car at the junkyard with a 2.5 turbo instead. Just grabbed complete engine with wiring harness and computer, all sensors and relays, and the fuel pump. There were also some odds and ends like the turbo buldge hood, 12-button nav computer, some trim items, etc. Also threw in a new oil pump, rod bearings, belts, etc. Turbo power can be had cheaply.

Will you be doing most of the work yourself? That would save considerable cost.

Locate a Pick-n-Pull or a similar self serve auto wreckers and browse their Dodge section, you should be able to find a complete turbo engine for $100~.

Regardless of trany any 2.2/2.5 turbo engine will fit.

Being a 5spd guy I'm not sure if the 3spd trany is different for N/A or turbo cars.

The N/A a413 has weaker clutch packs and a lock-up torque converter. Otherwise they are more or less the same. That being said, I wouldn't put too much power in front of an N/A trans. But stock T1 levels won't necessarily break it. I did not use the turbo trans when I did my conversion. It lasted a while, but second gear is now gone. The trans already had 140K on it before the turbo engine and then I let a friend drive the car and he abused it so it doesn't shock me it's broken. Change the fluid and don't beat on it all the time and it should be okay. But if you plan to upgrade the engine at all or want to do any kind of racing, definately get the turbo trans.

Also, do not go TIII unless you like headaches and long nights of annoying car work. It's a bear to swap over to TIII and there are certain reliability issues with them unless you put in the money/time to correct said issues.

You want to find an 89+ car. Spirit, Daytona, LeBaron, Shadow/Sundance, or minivan. Lots of options. Most of the T1's from those cars will be a 2.5. It's just easier to use a common block setup (89+) than the older setup. But anything can be made to work. You'll want the wiring harness from a turbo Spirit though if at all possible. It's plug and play at that point. The minivan harness is too short to work, but you could use one from any of the other cars and just redo the lighting subharnesses. Having a Spirit one is definately the way to go though. Having the correct parts, I had the old engine out and the new one in with all harnesses etc in a day's time.

I honestly don't know as much about that. There have been people that did the swap to MPI. You'd need the turbo intake, fuel rail and injectors, computer, and wiring harness too I would imagine. And it'll be calibrated for boost so you'd probably have to figure out some way to cut back the fuel. The only successful one I paid attention to was using an afermarket engine controller and a custom made wiring harness. Try searching the forums and see if you can find some folks that have done it. With a good tune on MPI, you could pick up a few hp and better gas mileage surprisingly. But it may be just as cheap to get the whole turbo engine. Just depends on what you can find in your area.

I'm really not trying to rain on your parade or anything. There just isn't a lot you can do to make the TBI faster without going turbo or dumping time/money into major porting, etc. For now, open up the exhaust and bump the timing to 14. Just make sure you run 91+ octane in it. Those are cheap as free and will give you a little more power.

just drop in a 2.5 turbo and a turbo a413 if you want more power. that is the cheapest way.
