I am unfamiliar with the early 2.2's and was wondering if their distributors were all computer controlled? Or did any of them run an electronic control box similar to the mid 70's V8 vehicles?
Thanks

Not like leanburn was.

Carbed 2.2L all got the computer control spark. Controls extra 200rpm on the throttle with a throttle closed contact pad and antidieseling solenoid (only on while key is in RUN and start positions, this one is not under computer's control.), monitors the coolant temp and manifold vacuum (for spark advance timing.) and emissions.

Some have 6520 carb that requires one-wire O2 sensor. Can convert carb to weber (recommanded) or 5220 carb if you are allowed to drop kick the 6520 carb.

Cheers, Wizard

Thanks for the reply. What I am trying to find out is whether I would be able to run an MSD box on a carbed distributor. My goal is to run a blow thru system on propane, rather than gas. I'm hoping to ditch the factory computer box in favor of the msd. This is really my only stumbling block to performing this conversion. Do you know if Mopar Performance ever offered a recurved carb distributor?

u should be able to run a msd ignition on one and eliminate the factory computer to run lp u just need one of the early distributors with a centrifugal advance like i believe yours should then u would just have to wire the pick up coil to msd box just like the instructions, i believe best distributor to run would be a early Shelby distributor cuz i believe the curve was faster i also think msd has a performance distributor that they sell , and remember lp has a minimum of a 105 octane and that lp engines run cooler than a gas engine so crank the compression . i once helped build a " rock buggy" thing that ran a 2.0l out of a fork lift with its lp system when the engine went back together it should have had 11.5 :1 compression from our calculations never detonated with a 195 thermostat and the forklift radiator the electric cooling fan only kicked on once when we used it to pull a 1/2 ton 4 wheel drive bout 2 miles through a woods.

That sounds very encouraging. I have all the propane parts necessary, including a nice compact tank. I also have a new MSD boost timing master, but if I go with a digital box I don't think I'll need it. I have also seen some wicked horsepower made with turbocharged propane set-ups.
