I havent been to active on the boards here for awhile. Ive been on a few of the Neon forums mostly since Ive been driving neons daily for a whole year now.

About 9 months ago I was being stupid and blew all my stock lifters apart as well as a few followers in my '84 GLH. Turns out the MP 767 cam pulls to 8000rpm and the stock valve train doesnt! Since then shes just been sitting but I recently started putting everything back together! I sourced a low mile '84 GLH engine and started from there. Everything in the head has been replaced. MP 767(460lift) cam, MP High RPM valve springs, MP sintered iron followers, Viton valve seals, new valves, keepers, and retainers, and I had the Shelby Cam gear Hypercoated, I also had the head pressure checked and resurfaced. Im keeping the stock Compression(9.6:1) so no serious milling was done. The stock intake manifold was replaced with an old MP one that I sanded smooth and had powdercoated krinkle black.

The bottom end is getting new rings, bearings, front and rear main seals, and all gaskets needed. I still need a new waterpump and alternator as well as belts and a few other small things.

On the exhaust side I have a new Hooker longtube thats been Hypercoated. 2.25'' piping will run back to my NOS GLH muffler. Im also installing a cutout before the muffler just for fun.

So what do you guys think?

Good old carb 2.2! Caravan carb 2.2 I still drive with it, get a weber (32/36 DFEV) instead of that horrible holley. Find a used weber preferably low miles (still clean and shiny). Shouldn't be not so much, and get re-jetting kit with rebuild kit from weber reseller. I got these stuff for the weber carb from Welcome to Carbsonly

How good is this MP intake over stock? I haven't see much comments about this intake.

Cheers, Wizard

The MP intake is the production piece on the later model carb cars. Same casting number and everything. It has fins cast into the floor right below the carb for better fuel atomization.

As far as carbs go Im kinda torn. I have several stock feedback Holleys one of which has been rebuilt. I also have a mechanical secondary non feedback holley like off of a rampage that needs a rebuild. I WANT a Weber DFEV but am broke. Im trying to do this thing on a tight budget so Im not sure which way Im gonna go yet.

Ahh. Then mine is does not have fins on the bottom. It's smooth and one piece design not the early one with 2 piece (where coolant flow is).

Vntned, is your car is set up for feedback carb due to O2 sensor installed on the exhaust manifold? Then use that rebuilt carb. very IMPORTANT that carb actually have
throttle bushings rebushed if you did say it was rebuilt. Otherwise you'll have terrible MPG, hard to control idle etc. And problem is I tried few carb rebuilders and they showed no interest because they don't want to touch those 5220/6520 grabage.

Test all your carbs for best bushing fit by opening the throttle slightly and wiggle, shouldn't be more than 1/32". Which is very small tolerance.

Feedback is gonna be useless because the O2 sensor isnt going to be there. The header doesnt have an O2 bung.

Ive heard of people unhooking the feedback wiring and using the stock carb. At one point in time before I had a header on a carbd GLH with the stock carb and no 02 sensor and it seemed to run fine other than being rich. I really dont want to put in an O2 sensor but it would probally be best If I use a feedback carb.

I also found a mechanical secondary carb with feedback wiring. Ill probally wind up using that since I wont have to worry about the vacuum secondary setup on my 6520.

no no.

If you don't have O2 sensor, use 5220 or weber. Not 6520 carb (sell most of them off). Sorry. You'll thank me. Running rich all the time ruins the engine.

The holley carbs aren't that bad if they're in good shape. Just be sure to run one of the non-feedback ones off of a 2.2 HO shelby motor or whatever else you can get a non-feedback carb off of. FWIW, 2 years ago I bought a 83 shelby charger for parts. Seller said he had it sitting for 6 or 7 years without doing much of anything with it. After a bit of cranking it fired right up and has run well ever since. But he said the carb was rebuilt a year or two before parking the car. In any event, they can be decent carbs if they're in good shape, but I agree, if budget allows, get a small webber. They can be had dirt cheap off that auction site.

Update!

My idiot cousin accidently knocked the head off the block(wasnt bolted down) and it fell and busted the MP intake manifold!

However thats ok cus I just picked up a complete Sidedraft weber setup with all the linkage, and with two 45mm webers for only $200!

I decided since Im gonna have all this fuel that Im gonna have the head taken back to the machine shop and have them cut .045'' off the head!

10.6:1 cr, MP767 cam, dual webers and a hooker longtube! Im shooting for 150hp at the wheels!

Pics are coming soon!

What do you think Ill get HP wise? I thought 150hp would be pretty close. Id like the torque to be 150ftlbs or more!

Oh, and I already have a 2.5''x10'' flex pipe to go right behind the header!

My goal with this car is to be as fast as or faster than a stock Omni GLHS!

Well I got some new toys for my GLH build but I cant find my camera.

A while back I picked up an Addco 1'' rear sway bar as well as some poly front control arm bushings. Just yesterday I bought a freshly powdercoated silver kframe as well as Powdercoated black control arms and stock 1'' front sway bar!

Ive also decided to lose the Powersteering pump and bracket because it doesnt clear my webers! It will also clean up the engine bay alot!

I also found a cast TBI VC which is gonna get a powdercoat and go on top of my freshly milled head.

And I started polishing the stock swiss cheese wheels yeaterday!

Ive really got my hands full as my fiance` and I are getting married in May, looking at buying a house before then, planning our sons Birthday party in April, getting my cousins Turbo Z CS and friends Turbo 600 ES ready for a local show in 3 weeks! However as soon as I find my camera Ill get some pics up!

Ill definately be getting it tuned on a dyno. I want this thing to run great!

The manifolds have actually been drilled and tapped to run direct port nitrous! I think I might play with juice later down the road if I have some extra money to blow!
