True story: My father was a sheriff in a small Neb. county, and in 1990, bought an 89 5 speed Dodge Omni TBI. Fun little undercover type run-about. He was enroute to an accident site, lights and siren behind the front grill. His deputy was about 5 minutes in front of him enroute. He caught up to the deputy's '90 Caprice, actually PASSED HIM by downshifting to 4th, upshifted to 5th, and got to the accident site first. The deputy was shocked his V-8 cruiser was walked by a 4-banger.
I had a Plymouth Horizon in 1991, carb'ed, and stock, and while it's top speed was about 90-95, it would hold that speed and handle quite well for 5-6 minutes at a shot.
It was no Neon R/T or GLH Turbo (which was a MONSTER in comparison to the stocker N/A versions) but both were fun cars.
Quarter-mile times were probably 18 something for the Plymouth and probably mid to low 17's for the TBI car....
