Okay, I've now reached a point I'm ready to start the parts gathering process for the 88 Horizon swap. I have a few questions that some of you guys who have done it can answer.

I'm shooting for 200 at the wheels, good expectations? Mainly because of my tight budget and the car is gutted so that should scoot it along nicely.

Would I be able to get out under 3K if I call up FWDPerf and tell them I want a motor ready to bolt in minus turbo?

Thinking 2.5, megasquirt, small turbo to start with...

If anyone has any turbo cars running I'll need one in a few months if the "new" thing doesnt work out.

Cheap and fast turn around is what I'm in for, something tells me I can only pick one though.

Try to find a used engine locally with good compression, changed gasket/seals and move from there.

A good condition used engine will easily handle 200hp, go for new or cleaned injectors with at least a TII Garrett turbo.

you almost need to -
find a complete Turbo car in a junkyard,
or buy a rusted out Turbo car for cheap..

if yu pulled the engine harness and ECM then it would be close(r) to plug-n-play;

you could scavenge the larger radiator

is yur 'rizon an auto ? if so you'd want the Turbo A413 too.

you would even want the exhaust 'downpipe' if its an 89+ donor car

I would buy a 88-89 Shadow / Sundance for an organ donor, wiring etc. Then get the pin outs at the firewall from NAJ. You'll also want a Garret turbo to add to the donor. Then with the basics add

Alright, I'll start the hunt. I'm hoping MegaSquirt will take out alot of the harness woes. Because I may not have a turbo harness to start with if I build a motor from the jy...

I've been surfing car-part but the ones I like are guaranteed rebuildable. Alot of the yards list the motors as compatable because of the block and such being the same so a search for the turbo motor leads me to the jy telling me it's non turbo but will work as a replacement.

Well, no shit but then it wouldnt be turbo. So why would I want a n/a motor to replace the turbah?

The search is on, still. Hopefully something good comes up. I have a budget but when it comes to getting closer I'll probably go broke getting it done...

Lead on a complete running Vin J lebaron that just rolled into local salvage. $500 with under hood harness if I don't pull the harness myself. $400 for the running motor!
