SuperCharging a TBI engine?

Hi, pardon me posting this to more than one forum, but I'm not sure if it belongs in non-turbo or turbo and really its just more of a 'forced-induction' topic.

I found a guy selling a slightly used supercharger for the 2.2 / 2.5 carb setup. It comes with the B&M intake and the B&M supercharger, carb adaptor plate and the gaskets.

How different is the carb from the tbi in terms of how they mount to the intake manifold? Are the bolt positions the same?

I was thinking about buying this if it didnt require any extra fabrication.

The other question, for any of you who have successfully done this, is what belt drives the supercharger? I dont think theres any more room on the engine-crank pulley wheel. Would you get a longer waterpump / alternator belt ?

I've never seen one of these mounted up in a 2.2/2.5 before.

Thanks!

i think the supercharger requires you to ditch your power steering and uses that belt, albeit probly a longer one.

if there are differences between the carb and tbi setup as far as the supercharger is concerned, it should be a simple matter of making an adapter plate or a different boost box (what the hell do you call those things?) to fit the tbi.

i would say they are rare enough and a supercharged tbi unique enough that it would be worth this little bit of extra work.

however, you're definitely going to want an adjustable fpr if it doesnt already come with one. i think the highest you can get out of the stock injector with raised pressure is only about 170hp, and then you have to add another injector like the turbo guys. thats mostly guesswork, but its semi educated guesses. the tbi injector supports 140-150 hp on stock pressure and supposedly locks up at higher pressures, so i figure you cant go much past 30 psi on fuel pressure.

anyway, imo, DO IT!! itll be awesome.

That would be sweet, and it would work too.

Hey guys,

Don't mean to high jack this thread but I have a B&M Supercharger for sale.

You can use power steering with these, you just have to get the later "z or zip (I think they're called)" style pumps, as they're a bit smaller. I pulled one from an '89 Shadow and it is smaller than the one on my '84 Rampage.

I've actually though about putting one on an EFI engine or TBI engine. It would require some fabrication, but it could work. The one I have has an upgraded pulley for more boost (6-8psi). But you'd definitely have to fix other things, like compression, fuel, etc.

PM me if you want to buy it, I know you do! LOL

Sorry, should've specified. That's $1,000 USD OBO. I'm a US citizen but I live in Canada.
