ok, where do i begin, the head design on the 2.6 is good. but the metalurgy isn't. i don't know what they did different from regular to front wheel drive but, the heads do not hold up. they have a design flaw that makes them prone to cracking in between the valves.after 4 motors and 6 heads and abvout a million miles of timing chain i have grown to use the 2.6 as a reaelly big boat anchor.everytime i see one for sale around
here i just laugh. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!

He got the engine from a guy who was buildin it for quarter midgets on dirt or somethin, there are actually performance parts for them, hea has header, bored .30 over, head ported and lumpy cam, itll hold next to a 5.0 in that little truck

i live in hagerstown maryland if u know where that is, theres a guy at the machine shop here that does the work, look in some minitruckin mags and find dealers for weber carbs, they make a kit, theyre a pain to tune but worth it, but the guy does all the boring and porting himself, he may do your head or sumptin if u mail it to him, its Dennys Machine Shop, in hagerstown or williamsport

Actually the metalurgy is fine.....they crack near the jet valve not between the intake and exhaust valve. And they crack because when they overheat and lose coolant there is not enough coolant in the head to cool the area near the jet valve. The jet valve seat is a steel seat pressed into aluminum, somethings gotta give. Easy way to cure this is to replace with a non-jet valve head.
