My daughters '99 has no reverse or neutral, car will move forward when in neutral and when in drive, will not move at all when in reverse. could it be shifter cable? car has 33k on it and she had the trans flushed at a quick lube place just after she purchased the car about a month ago. I have not looked at it yet, any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Dee.

Ummm......no. Neons only come with the 3spd auto still. True to this day. Sounds like the shifter cable was monkeyed with when it was in for its trans service. Try readjusting it and see what happens.

Ok, fine....but it still doesn't apply in this case as the car is a 99.

let me guess. the forward clutch is seized and won't release. this would lock the trans in reverse because forward and reverse are on together. and it moves in neutral because the clutch is seized. Seen it many times. take it for a drive and manually shift it. if it upshifts and downshifts correct the cable and manual valve issues are not the problem. if the clutch is seized it might sit on a hill in reverse and fell like its in park. This does not always work because of the converter.
Good luck
Tim

make sure it has +3 in it or +4 is better, fluid types can make a big difference, could need a rebuild, if there was metal shavings in the pan it could have flushed them through the cooler or inside the trans we still do neon trans rebuilds in the shop, 00 and up are pretty good though
