A few years ago I spun a bearing in the engine of my 97 acr. The engine was replaced at my cost and the old motor is now resting in my garage. I now have an 89 omni (automatic-for now) and I understand that heads can be swapped ? I'm currently watching for a local turbo car to snag for parts. So a turbo dohc 5sp with a glhs suspension sounds fun to me. If anyone has done this I'm interested in reading up on it.

Why? It sounds like he wants to do an NA build. Let it stay.

I'd personally like to see an all motor hi-po 16 valve setup.

yeah, atleast one guy has swapped a 2.0/2.4 DOHC setup onto a 2.5. there is a lot of machining and custom fab and other special considerations involved. probably have to run modded turbo electronics or neon dohc wiring w/ some custom programming/calibrations id gather. and then there is the exahust system to consider!

the 2.5 w/ a dual cam head will give you both high end breathing and low end grunt. factor in a little car like an omni with a good 5spd swap and youll be kicking butts at every stoplight!

Several key issues with this swap... bore spacing, coolant and oil feed and return, timing belt (tooth pitch and #s). but anything is possible... years back guys figured out how to put 351 cleveland heads on a 302 and then there is the guys putting a DOHC Volvo head on 2.3 ford engines. Heck I was told I couldn't put a 2.3 quad 4 head on a 2.4 twin cam block... but I did 230hp all stock parts 11:1 compression.

Those issues have already been figured out. This is becoming a pretty common swap. It just hasn't been done on an N/A vehicle.. The biggest issue I see on an N/A vehicle is valve clearance.. There won't be any.. Better get that timing belt on right, and don't strip it!

Lots of guys have done it, the 2.0L and 2.4L Neon heads bolt right on, Cindy is even making hybird cam sprockets. Thats why I said to go over to 16v conversion. I will also be doing one if money works out.

Chadxton, if you read, he will be running a turbo set up, not N/A and the 16V thread is for turbo or N/A,
