When I had my 85 duster I could get into the low 17's with my auto. I just got an 84 shelby charger with mods 2.5 side exit exhaust, header, electric inline fuel pump, and upgraded ignition. The car was a scca autox'er so I know it should be quick in the corners but will it be desent in the 1/4? I'm not looking to break records I just dont want my Civic to be faster than my shelby. Post time and mods If your racing N/A please!

I knew of a local guy in town who used to own a '84 omni with a carb'd 2.2 and a wild cam.. ran a 15.9 after a few tries.. then he got himself a dohc "ex" neon coupe.. i think with practice you should be in the low 16's..

I had a 1983 2.2L carb Horizon that ran a 16.4 @ 83mph with a 2.4 60' time. Talk about major bog off the line! It had a later model A525 with a 3.05 final drive, which really sucked for accleration but was awesome on the highway. Only real mods at the time where a MP spark computer, MP 767 cam, 2.25'' exhaust, 5220 carb, and a turbo flywheel/clutch.

15's where in the bag with better launches, a properly geared trans, and a header. Too bad it got totaled 3 days after I went to the track with it.

1986 Turismo Duster Auto. All stock except for a K&N and Dynomax Super Turbo muffler. 17.54 at 78. Not the fastest, but a killer bracket car.

civic beating a shelby?

i raced my 91 dynasty 2.5 against a friend's little 87 2 door accord (looks like a prelude) with manual tranny. weight was probably even (he had a passenger and i had a heavier car). i could just keep up with him off the line. we didnt top 50mph as we were in a heavily policed area with lots of lights and a 35mph speed limit. but im sure my car would hold its own. in a drag type race, he had no advantage over me!

those accords with the 2.0l made 100hp for the base model and 120 in the "EXi" edition. not to good for a 16v motor.. but its 1987-89.. and GM's 2.8 v6 only made 5-10 more hp.. *so* draw your own conclusions

but yes.. torque rules
