Hey Dudes!!!!!! MoParfest in a week and a little New Hamburg Ontario. Anyways, Does anyone have a clue on using an 8 bolt 87 with an 84 Torque Converter? The 84 only has three bolts vrs the 87 having 4 going onto the flywheel...a mechanic friend of mine says yes it can be drilled to fit. Let me know what you guys think>>>>>Now I have heard if I wanted to use the 4 bolt converter I would need to do major changes to the 413 out of the 84....wooo that was winded sorry for the long post Thanks Robb

in the old days, we would re-drill the flexplate... that's the easiest way to do the job... bad part is making sure that TDC on the engine matched the mark on the torque and inturn lined up with the trans timing window. The only correct way to do the swap is use a 1986 trans (non lockup 4 bolt torque and same axle shaft size.) or chance the pump and torque from a 1986 into your current trans (1986 does not have lockup)

87 when lockup converters and 520 type manual trans came out.

Actually 85 and older engines are 6 bolt cranks... but you would really be better off goint to a 8 bolt crank engine since these have 11mm head bolts instead of 10mm... too bad your in Canada- ay? I have 2 1985 6 bolt crank engines (nonturbo) in great running condition.. one is early TBI wierd holley setup and the other is carb. Dirt CHEAP prices.
