Anyone modded a '85-'93 CTD ?

I'm new here...former PowerStroke owner. I'm tired of costly repairs and dealer techs that cant diagnose problems. I already sold one PSD and the other is listed. I've always liked the old square bodystyle that the Dodge had and am curious if that year/model cummins is upgradeable or would the cost be too prohibitive? I'd like to buy one but if it's too much trouble to mod it I'll probably by an '01-'02. Thanks for any info.

Im sure you will get some sort of answer but this site isnt really dedicated to turbo deisels. This site is for the early 80's to mid 90's turbocharged dodge/chrysler cars and minivans.

dodge started with the cummins in 89 i believe the the body style that you like has a rotary pump on it wich can make some good power but not like the 94-98 p-pumped cummins and but why did you sell your psd's what kinda problems did you have? and what years did you ahve? if you dont mind me askin i have a 97 psd and love it just basic mods intake exhaust 6 pos chip with custom tunes and ihad to rebuild the tranny

If you get one, get a 92 or 93, they went to a larger frame those two years.
I bought a 92, and have put 40k miles on it since I bought it with 143k on it.

Hes in the right section, which is for Cummins diesel pickups. Although the data base for diesels is in its beginning stages, there are plenty of people with good understanding of the CUmiins here.

I have a 93 Cummins with over a Million miles on it and its moderatley modded. It has a AFE filter, Bully Dog fuel Pin and injectors and a cranked up pump. It makes more than enough power to tear up the driveline.x Ive done a few things like a manual trans tranny cooler to help pkeep it cool when towing in 5th gear.

SO the 1st gen trucks are just fine for making a good tow rig.

Yes the inline P pumps can deliver more fuel/more pressure with the 96 being the best, Im a 1st gean fan because of the simplicity and lower cost of repair.

anything with the 89 body style is going to give you rear end problems. apparently the rear ends were the same as the ones in the gas powered 318's and they couldnt handle all the torque. rip go the ring and pinion.

Its a Dana 60 & 70 in those years. Ive been running about 600 ft/lbs and have over a million miles on the read end. Its held up pretty good, but like anything if you bang gears it can break.

89-90s had the dana 60 3/4 ton for sure mabey the 1 ton as well. I know the IC trucks 91-93 had Dana 70s in the rear.
