Ram 2500 shaking while idling

Hey guys I am pretty new to the forum and need some help with a problem I am having with my 2003 Ram 2500.

When my truck is idling, it shakes pretty bad, but when I drive it is fine... I don't know what is happening and the boys at the shop can't explain it either...

Has anyone experienced this before?

had to send injectors out for repair water go into to fuel supply and pluged up the nozzels causing the to spatter insead of spray on a buddys truck

what you need is too get a scan tool on it (drbIII) and see what the data is telling you its a lot cheaper then just throwing parts blindy at it. diesel parts can get very expensive fast

Is the check engine lamp illuminated? If so you need to use an OBD2 scanner and retrieve the fault codes.

Set Condition: Misfire detected on this cylinder.

When Monitored: While the engine is idling at operating temperature.
Set Condition: Misfire detected on this cylinder.

TEST ACTION APPLICABILITY
1 Using the DRBIIIt, verify that the fuel level is above 15%.
Is the fuel level above 15%?
Yes ! Go To 2
No ! Add fuel go to step 2.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1 (DIESEL).
2 Read the Freeze frame data.
Is the DTC equal to the freeze frame DTC?
Yes ! Go To 3
No ! Repair any other DTC’s first.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1 (DIESEL).
3 Visually inspect the injector supply lines for damage.
Do you have any kinked or bent fuel lines?
Yes ! Repair or replace damaged fuel lines.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1 (DIESEL).
No ! Go To 4
4 Visually inspect the valve train and check the valve lash on the suspect cylinders.
Is the valve train functional and the lash within the specifications listed in the
service manual?
Yes ! Go To 5
No ! Adjust the lash or fix or repair any damaged component(s).
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1
5 Remove the fuel injector supply lines for the suspect cylinders.
Inspect both ends of the fuel injector supply lines for damage.
Using shop air pressure, blow out the fuel injector supply lines to verify that they are
not obstructed.
Are the fuel lines free of debris or damage?
Yes ! Go To 6
No ! Replace the damaged or obstructed fuel injector supply lines.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1 (DIESEL).
6 Remove the high pressure connectors for the suspect cylinders.
Inspect both ends of the high pressure connectors for signs of damage.
Using shop air pressure, blow out the high pressure connectors to verify that they are
not obstructed.
Are the high pressure connectors free of debris or damage?
Yes ! Go To 7
No ! Replace the damaged or obstructed high pressure connectors.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1 (DIESEL).
7 Remove the suspect fuel injectors.
Are the fuel injectors damaged?
Yes ! Replace the external damaged fuel injectors & high pressure
connectors.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1 (DIESEL).
No ! Go To 8
8 With the DRBIIIt, erase DTCs.
Switch the misfiring injectors & high pressure connectors with injectors & high
pressure connectors from cylinders that are firing properly.
Operate the vehicle.
Did the misfire DTC follow the suspect injectors & high pressure connectors?
Yes ! Replace the internal damaged fuel injector and high pressure
connector.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1 (DIESEL).
No ! Go To 9
9 Perform engine compression test
Did the suspect cylinders pass the compression test?
Yes ! Go To 10
No ! Repair the internal damage to the engine.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1 (DIESEL).
10 Perform engine leak down test
Did the suspect cylinders pass the leak down test?
Yes ! Test Complete.
No ! Repair the internal damage to the engine.

The check engine light is not on but I will check out dodgetalk.com to see if there is anything there. Also, when I turn the truck off the whole truck shakes pretty violently - could this be part of the same problem?

Engine mounts?? Does it really wrap back and forth when going from Drive to reverse?

Not so much when I go from drive to reverse, but just when I am stoped and have the gear in drive or reverse.

they shake on shutoff is known as the "cummins shake"...its totally normal.

as far as rough idle, does it have a hard time starting? extended crank? try changing your fuel filter, make sure you have some fuel additives. also try turning your key on, key off, and key on again, then leave it on...if there are any codes, it will pop up in the odometer window.

I am going through an all out injector replacement, it isnt pretty....so hopefully thats not whats wrong with yours. also, if you dont find what you need here, or at dodge talk, try dieseltruckresource.com every thing you need and then some...

I put some additive in today and hopefully in a few days it will be better. I really don't want to put in new injectors either.... We will see. There are no codes showing up and the dealer didn't find any codes either, so hopefully it just needs a bit of cleaning.

IS IT A MANUAL? have seen the exact symptoms: bad shake at idle, no dtc, fine when moving. was the clutch assembley - dual mass flywheel becoming unbalanced
