My boss has a 2006 mega cab. He was pulling horses down the freeway at 75 MPH...and lost the turbo.... Pulled it off the road and retreived it the next day. he hauled it to a dealer for warranty. to find out they were not going to warranty it. well at first they were then they changed there mind. this truck did not have a knock before he took it in and when I went to get it it did. at one piont the dealer said that there machanic test drove it... Not sure why... The turbo was ovius why test drive it well I got it back to the shop and put a new turbo on it and removed the cooler and pipes cleaned all the oil out off them the best I could. put it back together. (the knock to me seemed to be fuel) started it up ran it at about 2000 rpm's for some time to clean up the smoke. got it all cleared up and runs much better but still has a miss that comes in and out running at 2000 rpm's raw fuel smoke at times from the exhaust. the knock went away for about two min. them came back... I would think that if I had a deeper problem it would have come from together by now...LOL Do I still have oil fouling out one hole.(no more smoke to show that?) or do I have a bad injector from all this. I would not think so but anything is possable.
thanks for the help I will be looking for a reply.

Not a diesel tech but work for Chrysler so I have access to all Chrysler service info.
Start by checking for fault codes but it is a Can Bus system so you need a Chrysler Star Scan to check codes in all modules.

If you didnt take out the intercooler and reeeealy degrease it, you still have a problem on your hands... (hmm read it again, looks like you did)

Why would they void the warranty, was he running a box? If he was, a duration box could kill an injector no problem.. should it?.. no, but thats besides the point

is this a 5.9 or a 6.7

The new diesel fuel makes the injectors much louder-run some power service in the tank, put a load on it and get her real hot. This will clean up any smoke. Some smoke is normal at start up and wot. These engines are loud by design so some injector rattle is normal. If he's running a box they can make the injectors loud (sounds like a gas engine rod knock or bad lifter)remove the box or put in a switch to disable it-see if that helps.Hopefully it does not have a bad injector(s).Keep an eye on the oil level-if it rises start thinking injectors.Another tell tale sign is missing at startup. If it starts up smoothly, the injectors are fine.
