how hard would it be to drop a 2.2 turbo motor into a 1982 plymouth horizon 5 speed? i have a omni glh that was totaled out by the insurance company? would the motor mounts be the same? just swap the wiring and computer? both are 5 speeds. is the linkage and stuff the same?

thanks,
jeff

No, the mounts are not the same... But, there were some L bodies in '82 with 2.2's, so you just need to track one of them down in a JY for the mounts.

What did you get a door ding?

How bad is the damage. Is it repairable? The insurance company will call almost any damage totaled just to get out of fixing it for more. How much did they give you for $$. You can make them give you market value of $2-4K instead of $500.

Make them give you the right amount of money or make them fix it. Don't total the car if not necessary.

Insurance A-holes piss me off.

You'll need to swap over everything: engine, trans, fuel lines, fuel pump, actually the whole damn fuel system, the exhaust system, the computer, find some mounts as mentioned, all underhood wiring, I would probably swap the glh interior incl. dash and gauges as well. I dunno if the brakes and tires should be swapped as well, but I prolly would if you already have them.

Basically be prepared for quite a bit of work. But it is totally doable

I have done several turbo swaps including carb to turbo. Carb to turbo is by far the hardest especially if a fuel injected engine was not offered that year. As long as yours is a 2.2 everything should bolt in. The problem is the harness, I doubt the bulkhead connector will be the same. Since you have a complete donor car and there really isnt much wiring in those cars, swap both the engine and interior harnesses. I didnt want to do this on my 84 because there is a lot more work wiring a van over your car so I heavilly modified the 90 turbo harness to work with my 84 interior harness, but it took a lot of time, patience and studying. You should be ok with the stock fuel lines, but thats about it. If you get in a bind let me know. But like I said just swap all the wiring and save yourself the hassle of cutting, splicing etc.....
