Has anyone ever installed a Whipple supercharger? I am thinking of the PT Cruiser kit for my Caravan. I have an 02 with the 2.4L and the A604, sorry 41TE now.

I know that the intake throttle body is in a different location. That is not as big of an issue as to whether $3600 is worth it for a mostly bolt on kit versus buying take off SRT4 parts and building my own turbo kit.

I am only looking for modest power gains, 3.8L V6 level torque and hp is fine with me.

Thanks,

Tom

Doesnt seem like worth the money. I rode in one and was not impressed at all. There are alot of problems with that kit. Search around some pt forums.

Im guessing the whipple charger is probably too small. Someone took a low HP kit for a 1.8L honda and modified it for a 2.4L to make even less hp.

Whipple= awesome but anything can be screwed up.

Thanks for some of the input guys. I guess I am going to have to find some actual PT guys who have used the kit.

Whipple wasn't even very helpful when I contacted them about more technical information about the kit. They just said they don't think it would work in my application and that was about it. Nothing as to here are the installation instructions for you to review, this is how we supplement the fuel supply to keep it from running lean, etc.

Thanks,

Tom

That was my thought. It just fires extra injectors right? Does it use its own MAP sensor? Do they check valve the stock MAP sensor to keep it from seeing boost?

not sure exacly how it works for sure. We had one in the shop. It didnt have any extra injectors, just a computer that plugs betweent the factory wiring and the pcm. They had a recall on the kit where you had to send the computer back to get it reprogrammed and it had an air diverter in the intake. #2 cyl was running lean because the sc was forcing most of the air directly into that cyl, throwing the check engine light. The factory computer would then lean the fuel mixture out causing the car to stumble. I wouldnt mess with it unless you could find a used kit or something.

Yep, I agree. I'm a cheap Turbo Dodger, so used is much better than buying new.

I think I could get used take off SRT parts cheaper, but then I have to figure out oil return, supply, coolant issues, changing exhaust, fabricating and routing piping, possibly mounting an intercooler, figuring our my own supplimental fuel system, etc.

If the kit was closer to the mid $2k range, I would not hesitate. But $3600 is a little steep for something I would still have to modify.

Can find those on eBay all day long. Plus the ultimate performance module that adds like 25hp.
