Can any one answer my question regarding the use of a 2.5 Turbo short block as a direct replacement to a 2.2 Turbo short block. I recently got a 2.5 Turbo short block from the junk yard thinking that it was a 2.2 Turbo. I'd like to know if I can just use the 2.5 Turbo and transfer everything else over from the 2.2 Turbo without making any changes other than bolting on the parts. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks

some people say that the 2.2 computer will run a 2.5 a little lean... someone else said he did it that way and it worked fine for 50kmiles... and a blazer killed the car not the computer

other than that it should work fine... just check your valve clearances with some clay or something

go back and grab the computer and injectors off the same car and it'll be all plug and play. Think you want to use an MP 005 headgasket since your head isn't crossdrilled.

Donovan's Dodge Garage is a good read for the newbie. And don't miss the event at Applebee's tons of good guys and a "hella" fun time. Wish I was closer I'd go to more of those meetings.

Just want to say thanks for the information. I was able to go back and get the head for the block and the injectors, but the computer was gone. Is there a specific number on the computer board that identifies a 2.5 from a 2.2. If not, how could I identify the difference, other than looking at the engine. I've got a few extra computers and don't recall what year car they were pulled from. Again, thanks for the info, it really helped.

Post the computer #'s you have + more than likely we'll be able to look them up.

Are both blocks common blocks? If not, the oil pan from a non common block 2.2 will not work on a common block engine. Hope it all goes well. I heard you could actually build a
"2.2 stroker" with a 2.5 which ought to be a beast of a powerplant.

Blessings,

I was able to pull a SMEC out of a 89 2.5 Turbo LeBaron. When I looked up the part number (which was 5235141) I found that it was superceded by part number 5235299. Based on my past experience with buying parts for the car this was no surprise. However, the new part number shows the SMEC to be for a 1989 ALL w/2.5L Turbo I, CA. I guess I'm on the right track. Any input would be appreciated.

I also have a SMEC from another car but cannot find a reference to it. I only have the last four numbers which are 242. I can't find any markings with the full number. The 242 number is also found on a chip located on the molded-in-board in the SMEC unit, where I also found the 141 number from the first unit. The number is on a silver foil label attached to a chip, with a bar code. Any explanation would be appreciated.

In my search for the part number, I ran across a MOPAR catalog with all OEM and reman. part numbers. It's about 157 pages. I would have posted the link but couldn't until I have at least 5 posts. This one gets me close. For those that are interested its at starparts.chrysler.com/starlibrary/marketing/reman/reman.pdf

Any 2.5 smec will work. When the need for performance goes farther you can get into modifying the smec and burning your own programs to it.
