Look into an Ogura supercharger.
It's a twin screw positive displacement design, but with a unique wankel designed rotor shape (thing rotary mazda). The shape of the screws in addition to them being hollow and filled with an inert gas. makes them extremely light.

But here's the best part, they come with a magnetic particle clutch. So you can turn the blower on and off at will, or wire it into your stand-alone.

Can you say fuel economy!

They only push about 12psi 14 max, but they are 90% efficient and produce about as much heat as a centrifugal design.

I'm working on adapting a TX12 to my 86' flatty quest.

My friend has a pair of forced induction 2.0 8 valve VW's, one is turbo the other uses a Twin screw blower. Its not loud at all. The problem is that once we convinced him to repair the things wrong with his turbo car....the turbo car blows away the twin screw car even though it has a small exhaust.

The twin screws are not loud though. Higher efficiency means more power at the same PSI because less heat is created as the air becomes pressurized from the positive displacement of the screws.

Even a roots blower shouldnt be super loud. My friend has 3 m90s at his house. He installed the one that had tight bearings. The other 2 were sloppy when turned back and forth and probably would have been very loud if the rest of the devices were in such poor condition. I know M90daytona's Supercharger was ported etc by 3.8L GM peeps but I don't know if he actually got it rebuilt with new bearings. Not too expensive to do, but obviously means your 200 dollar junkyard charger will all of a sudden double in price. .
