Hey all. I attended an auto show not too long ago where I got to check out a Intercooled Supercharged '98 Mustang. I was just curious, could this be done with the B&M Supercharger kits or no? Just wondering.

Thanks for any opinions!

was it a sandwich intercooler underneath a roots blower? if so, you most likely can but youll need at least a longer drive belt and a larger hood scoop to make the extra clearance to squeeze an intercooler in there. youll also need an intercooler as well as a pump and intercooler radiator as it will need to be a air/water setup.

an easier way to get charge cooling would be to lean out the carb a little and add alcohol injection.

I agree with Aries_Turbo on the alcohol injection. I think the only practical way of intercooling one of these roots blowers in this application is by using water/methanol injection, mainly due to hood clearance issues. The B&M blower combined with a downdraft carb and aircleaner already sticks up pretty high past the hood. Adding an intercooler under the blower would make it too high in my opinion.

I’ve considered possibly adding a water injection setup on mine so I can run lower octane fuel. There is a lot of info here: http://www.snowperformance.net/ ,in the forum section on this subject. The boost cooler sold there is a nice setup, but it seems a little pricey to me. I think something similar could be made up for less money.

That's cool then, like I said it was just a thought that came across to me when I saw that 'stang. BTW, my bro. and I are hoping to get into this whole SC project and have it done by SDAC, but I need another car to drive around in the meantime and so far, I've found nothing.

i already have a edlebrock water injection kit that i will be putting on my charger this spring.
the blower manual i have suggests using it with a mixture of no more than 50% water..50% methanol.
the reason i am leary is if i set my car up to run with it how long will a jug last ?.......
all i need is to be on thew high way , run out, detonate,....BOOM !
i am already running 29 degrees advance i would like to see 32 degrees ....
i guess we'll see what happens

On the Boost Cooler website I listed earlier, in the FAQ section, it says that most windshield washer fluids are up to 40% methanol and 58% water. To me this would be the easiest to find source of methanol. Just be sure that the washer fluid you were using actually contained methanol though, as some brands might not.

As to how long a tank will last, it says there also “Under normal street use in a 400 HP Mustang, a tank (2 qts.) usually lasts about 500 miles.” I think it’d probably depend on how much you were into the throttle. I figured that if I went with a similar setup I’d rig up a low washer fluid light of some sort to warn me if I was running low. As cheap as windshield washer fluid is I’d just carry a couple of jugs with me all the time.

What I’d considered too is adding another L-body washer tank on the passenger side, opposite the stock location (non-A/C car that is) and use a Tee to connect them together for more fluid capacity.

Try checking out http://www.dawesdevices.com/howto.html for a home brew set up. BTW would you suggest placing the water mist/injector directly over top of the carb throat? If the mist was fine enough (like those dry mist humidifiers) it should just fill the area of the air cleaner and be drawn into the carb....hmmm....maybe that head shim could come out to return to the 9.5:1 compression before the B&M install.

Tom, thanks for the link. I’ll have to check into that…looks interesting.
On the nozzle location, from what I gather the easiest place for it in our application would be down the carb’s throat. I’ve read it can also be placed under the carb’s throttle plates, but a solenoid would be needed for that setup.

I don't know if it will help, but the Oldsmobile Jetfire I used to own had a "water" injection system on it. It was a pressurised (from the intake) tank containing Turbo-Rocket fluid, which was an Ethanol/Water mix with a small amount of oil so nothing would corrode. When needed, the mix was injected just behind the throttle on the huge 1bbl sidedraft Rochester. Olds used a wild looking control system that either sprayed the mix in or limited the boost if there was no fluid. They got away with 10.25:1 compression with these. Maybe something similar with a solenoid valve? Oh, it ran like a scalded dog when the combination of boost + water injection hit, lots of gray smoke and an eriee whine when it kicked in.
