Both the 3.9 and 2.5 used the AX15 transmission after 94. They don't use the same bellhousing but if you swap to a 2.5, just use the 2.5 bellhousing. It was only available in 94-95. 96 and later Daks used the Jeep 2.5. Totally different motor.

Ah, I missed the manual part in the last post. Was thinking Auto for some reason. I don't think it would be worth while going with the 4cyl and 4wd. Just extra weight and the dakota is heavy enough as it is.

Update on the truck: I got the intake fabricated, and the turbo 2 motor is in place with the correct rwd oil pan. The M3 has been taking up most of my spare time lately. I need to get the IC mounted and make the header.

so what exactly do I need to convert a 94 2wd 3.9 manual to 2.5 turbo II?

I have a dakota 2.5 rwd bellhousing and I would like to retain the stock manual tranny thats in the truck to save some money.. I have access to fwd 2.2s and 2.5s all day long..

what do I need?

Thanks
Bryan

looking good, looks like it will need a lot of heat tape too! I am a big Holset fan.

Looks good, I have always had a dream of a `90 Club Cab in black with Shelby decals all over it.

we either need a dakota section or a good sticky following a dakota build.
This truck was parted out and is long gone and the thread has little to none info on turbo dakota converion.

Im still gather the correct info but who all thinks turbo Daks should have their own thread?
Rather than polute other threads with questions on daks, we need somewhere besides RWD.

When I tear mine down I'm going to try and do a build up as to what all I did as I put it back together. Need to finish up with a few other things before I start on that though.

my buddy has a 93 5.2 dakota with a FMU, turbo mounted in the box with a small electric pump and oil cooler to lube the turbo. Its crazy basic and has been running that way for over a year on 9psi(not sure how big the turbo is but its huge, mad lag) and the thing is insane fast! He spanked my buddies gt30r srt that was on 9psi.

I have a chance at a 84 Ram 50 built by Bits-O-Sushi I am thinking about a similar swap woth. I have the engine, and the tranny, but are there any special considerations except for the fuel pump, etc to do this swap? :-)PCRMike

4g63 swap would be easier in a Ram 50 and damn quick

FYI the early ram 50 with an auto used a 904 behind the 2.0-2.6 4 banger. That means the driveline, shifter and trans mount are the same as a V8 904 / 999. The frame mounts line up well for making new V8 mounts. A magnum 318 and a 999 would be easy and fast, add boost to be scary and a bigger rear end.

Valid idea, but they are also bad nose-heavy. I have a magnum 360 I could use, or a nasty mean 'teen already in the works. I think the handling would stay good, and maybe be inproved with a turbo four. :-)PCRMike
