Yep... my obsession with turbo dodges has crossed over into new uncharted territory... a 1971 Opel GT to be exact. I'm just starting the fabrication and I need a little help with the specifics:

Does anyone have a picture of the factory motor mount locations on the block for the RWD application?

On the back side of the block I assume it is where the intermediate shaft bolted on in fwd config, but I can't picture a location on the front side.

Tranny size- I have an A535 tranny out of a '89 dakota in the garage, but I ultimately plan to use the newer bell/supra tranny combo... how close is this to the A535 in dimension (close enough I can use it for mock up to fab in my motor mounts)?

Silly stuff- since I won't be using the fwd passenger side motor mount any obvious reason I shouldn't use a newer neon sohc head on it?

Thanks for assistance and other suggestiong you may have!

That seems like a great idea.

Just go with a 2.4l and turbo it without the hybrid grief. The 2.4l can bolt up to the trans of the earlier motors with only minor modifications.

I thought about that but it's going to cost me a ton more to get a good 2.4 turbo than it will to modify parts I allready own...

Based on the engine/tranny I have now the 2.2 combo should actually be a real easy fit.

Another question while I'm at it.. what type of an angle is the rwd 2.5 installed at(fwd seems 10-15 deg. to the rear)?

FWD is nearly vertical... but that doesn't matter, nor does where the factory motor mounts would go... since you are doing your own fabrication, just make your own mounts and put them where ever you want. (if you look at any common block, you will see 2 bosses near the distributor where they are tapped for dakota application). however you can always make your own driver side mount. build some bracket around the water pump lower mounting bolt and tie into where the ac bracket would attach to the block... that's what I did when I installed a 2.2 into a Conquest and into a tube chassis 4 cyl circle track car.

I used a ford T-5 trans in the pro4 application and a mustang 81ET trans for the conquest. (only because they gave me the gear ratios I was looking for) but for a street use, i would definitely go with the T-5. both were bolted to a slightly modified dakota (535) bell housing, used an aluminum flywheel on both with Clutchnet.com 3 puck disc.

If you think that's tight, my dad built one with a turbo Buick v6 pushing 400 hp or so.

I had an Orange Opel GT that i loved. I had it running for about two weeks when I lost it when my fathers garage caught on fire. I am still very upset about it. Someday I hope I can find one that isn't rusted through, no luck yet. your project sounds cool as hell. Post some pics with your project, good luck with it.
