Wow. I just started reading this thread and in the beginning, I was impressed by the work, but was expecting a tubbed out race-only shell of a car. Then I got to the pics of the whole car. That is awesome! Total SLEEPER. My kind of car! From the outside, that thing looks pretty stock. No one would ever expect the 16v turbo motor, much less the RWD conversion. Very nice. Im glad youre getting the probs ironed out. Cant wait to see that at SDAC.

Larry -- if you'll tell me what night you'll be at the track I'll get plenty of photos and videos of the beast in action. I'm getting my truck ('91 Dak) on the road now . . . won't be turbo'ed yet, but will be fun for a while. Just let me know.

Best pass on street tires at local track 12.8 118mph 2.2 60ft
Best pass on slicks at SDAC 17 Tuesday 12.4 114mph 1.8 60ft

Excuse section: With the street tires and a T3 pressure plate it was shifting great at any rpm. With the slicks and a dual diaphram pressure plate it was not so good, had to let the rpm's drop to get it to shift.
I made 8 passes at SDAC tuesday missed at least one gear on 6 out of the 8 passes Also did a lot of bogging off the line, however I did get a few good launches. Went from a worst of 2.1 60ft (first pass) to a best of 1.6

The car made the round trip from Kansas City to Pennsylvania averaged 28mpg. Only trouble other than the shifting was the fuel rail developed a slight leak, bought some silver bearing solder and a propane torch made it through the event and back home with no more leaks.

On the shifting problem, I think I need more travel in the slave cylinder with the dual diaphram plate. I installed a slave cylinder off a BMW which had a smaller diameter piston than the Supra slave that I was using. This helped the shifting so I think I'm on the right track but I ran out of time before I had to leave for Pennsylvania. I believe another shopping trip to the local yard a little fabricating and I should be shifting good with the heavy pressure plate.

P.S Had a great time at SDAC 17 even got a award, 2nd place P-body thanks for the votes everybody.

Larry, awesome job on the ride and I must say it was great watching you run that beast from the burn out box area! Pleasure to meet you again as well. Definitely have to catch up with you more at the next event though!

Update on the shifting problem,
I installed a slave cylinder off a Honda and went to the track July 11. It was shifting great with the dual diaphram pressure plate for almost 3 passes.
I guess I should elaborate on that almost 3 passes comment .
First pass at 25psi 1.85 60ft 12.06@119 engine was missing at the top of 2nd,3rd, and 4th. When I picked up that timeslip I just knew I was going to get into the 11's on the next pass, wrong. Second pass dropped boost to 23psi 2.18 60ft 12.2 @122 engine ran clean but I bogged it off the line. Third pass 23psi 1.76 60ft 12.54 @88. At about 6000rpm in 3rd gear there was a little pop and a big cloud of smoke coasted through the traps.

Broke a chunk out of #1 cylinder wall, blew out 2 freeze plugs. Pistons and cylinder head look good. Should be running again in a few weeks.
Glad it didn't let go in Pennsylvania
Here's a picture of the damage.

Ouch! that sucks. Looks like everything was running plenty rich, don't see any damage from detonation. When Russ did that in his omni I think he ended up having a bent crank so I'd check that all out as well. How far was your block bored?

Block was bored .030 over. Didn't see any strange wear on any of the bearings. Except for main #3 the thrust bearing surface was showing a lot of wear, no doubt from the heavy pressure plate. The spare block I am going to use also had a good crank in it so I won't be re-using the old one again.
