so guys. ever seen or hear of a 1979 dodge challenger? similar to the plymouth suparo. well i have one. and was considering using it as a driver.

only thing is it dosent have much power. its a rwd 4cyl and is not peppy at all. i was wondering if anyone new about them and if perhaps my 2.5 4cyl form my daytona would fit in it. like if the block is similar perhaps it would bolt right up? and if the trans bolts up too that be awsome!

just an idea. id much rather put in a small block v8 but for now i have my 2.5

think its a good idea?

the Conquest TSi 2.4 turbo and 5 speed is about the same engine and bolts in. I suggest that as it'll bolt in and wire up pretty easy. Otherwise it will be real custom, then you might as well drop in a V8 for that matter

well yea, but form what i saw, the challenger came with a 2,4? and a 1.6. mine has the lower model. 1.6.

lol and yea i supose a small block would be more of a cooler swap, however more is involved i presume such as swapping in a compatible rear and such. just seems if i could drop in a decent 4cyl it be much more ideal. specially if it bolts right up

i have several Challengers and Sapparo's. they came with a 2.6 as did the Conquest... I put a 2.5 into a conquest. it takes quite a bit of fabrication and thinking to make it work.

yeah it had the 2.6, doh. The 2.6 and the 2.0 are the same engine pretty much. The RWD 1.6 is different, there all hemi engines too. I worked with a few 1.6s and 2.6s but only 1 2.0. But what ever I still would bolt in a turbo 2.6 from a Conquest and any other suspension pieces you could get in there. The 2.6 has a lame timing chain and ballencing chain setup. It is too much for one tiny bolt and when it breaks you lose both chains. I remember some having jet valves to to create swirl in a hemi, lame. I would plug them too. The 2.6 has a TBI dual injector turbo setup, that means it is a real friendly extra injector engine. Our 2.2 / 2.5 is made to have a dry intake and it restricts them even more to go wet. The 2.6 is designed with a wet intake and the 5th injectors, or 3rd and 4th lol on a 2.6 work fine. They are cross flow as well, that means easy turbo work like a Ford 2.3. The cave man Gus methods are in order also with boost cut out risers as well as boost control. And of course the Gus extra injectors. So it could be fast with minor work, not as good as a 2.2 but a lot more speed per trouble.

ahh i see. well i'm asuming this is the 1.6. and it is carburated. no pep at all lol. it seems to be a rare car around here for i have never seen another like it. its in excellent condition too! only 40,000 original miles and still runs. just trying to explore some options to get some mroe powwer out of it.

butt if i were to swap motors i guess a small block v8 would be much more funn un the long run be quick to. for its a very small/light car.

actually they are not really all that light. on par with a 2.3 fox body mustang ... in the 2800# range. never seen one with a 1.6. all I have and have encountered were carburated 2.6L
