Anyone else run into a problem on the 1991 Dakota . . . I'm on why I get a no-start condition. I've checked ASD . . . I'm getting fire at the coil, I can put some ether or gas in her and it'll light up. I'm thinking fuel pump -- but I just put a brand new one in over the past 2 weekends. (Ugh!) Does anyone have any theories or smoking guns to look for? When you turn the key do you normally hear the fuel pump prime or is just when it loses prime? I'm stumped!

Thanks!

obvious you have a fuel issue based on your description. so you put in a new pump, maybe it's bad, maybe you need to return it for another... when you turn on the key, you should hear the pump run for a couple seconds. have you physically tested fuel pressure? have you verified power to the pump? checked the ground circuit at the pump? that's where I would start. then if you do indeed have a defective pump, you'll have some intellegent information for your proof of having a bad pump.

Thus far I've jumped across the ASD and fiddled with that a bit. I can swap the relays from ASD/starter/fan control and they all seem to work the same. I've done a lot of checking and that, but I guess I'm back to square one . . . I'm going to wiggle the fuel connector loose and start from the back and work my way forward. I'm beginning to suspect that my injector might be bad . . . I've got a puddle of fuel so I wonder if that's an issue or not? I got a subscription to the alldatadiy.com site and I'm going through the NS (no start) diagrams now . . . I wish I had access to a DRB so I could do all the tests the right way.

Horror of all horrors . . . I had a bad fuel pump . . . my brand new one.

This time around I got the truck bed off and worked on it from that direction . . . a lot better go around. I got the brakes done yesterday and now my list of stuff to do is getting smaller by the minute . . .yea!
