Moving the Engine, tranny, and whatnot to the back. Is it possible? I know thats a step further than RWD. Has it been done?

Sure, it can be done if you have the time & ability to do the fab work. Search around.. there's been rear drive conversions, mid engine conversions, and even a couple twin engine setups.

i'm going RWD with my omni. i am going to use a dekota trans(for temp. untill i get a adapter made for a 727) and i am using a 2.5L dekota block and putting good rods and pistons. and for a rear end i am using an A body (dart or duster or demon) so i dont have to cut a one(and it saves money for the motor!!) but on here i have seen a really nicly done shadow!!

Yeah thats a nice omni. I don't know. Is that more or less work than a tranny swap? Probably more. But definitely cheaper

not much room in the back of a tona for an engine though. An Omni has a 2" longer wheel base and is more square so the motor isn't right near your head

what i would do if i did it would be to remove the hatch, and fab it to be similar to a mid 90's Toyota MR2. It could work.

Thought about this myself too. Pretty much had it all worked out in my head. One thing that is uncertain is the handling. I'll all fit ... pretty sure anyway. Might be a wheelie monster though. That would suck, major.
Don't know how or what formulas to get an idea of the leverage imposed (and limits) with the engine just forward of the rear wheels.

I'd still like to try it on a junker just for kicks though.

how would that thing ever pass inspection?

you could probly solve the problem of handing with changing around spring rates and strut stiffness and such to get a nice balance

hehe no inspection here a small firewall could be built easily enough. Look at the Renault Clio V6's.

It'd be fun to drive. May have to weigh down the front for better traction

I had a Fiero GT v6 12yrs ago, that thing was fun. In the corners though, it used to "push" or understeer. I think we would have the same problem with mid engine daytona.
