Surrey, eh! The adapter plate was in my friends shop, he went to P.E.I. for 3 weeks, got back but haven't seen him yet. His neighbour has 2 CNC machines, was gonna get him to mill 2 large holes, one for the 2.2 crank, one for the Ford starter. Progress has been slow, I'll try to get a hold of him today, he works night shift, should be up this afternoon.

Hi Guys

Bushing Question:

I am doing the 2.2 TII / R154 / 94 Dakota Bell / ax15 front cover conversion.

I have all the pieces.

Now...WHICH adapter bushing do I need and where do I get it?

Also...what depth and size does the crank get drilled for it?

Thanks Earle

Can someone give me an overall length of the tranny with bell housing?I am going to do a 2.2 in my mid-engine 68 Valkyrie kit car(GT-40).I was going to do a BB mopar, but I can't afford 10k for a worthy transaxle. Now that I am saving space I want to see if I could work the Supra tranny and an 8 3/4.Otherwise I'm stuck running the Corvair transaxle with my own adapter plate to the Dakota bell.

That would be cardinal sin for the Ford camp... but I LOVE it!

Im pretty sure my buddy that drives a Datsun 280 said the Datsun Auto uses the same bell housing pattern as a Ford gear box. I can dbl check but its waas alot longer than 30 inches. His power glide is alot shorter.

Not if you flip the ring gear. Formula V cars run with the engine in front of the transaxle.

Is that all you really have to do to make a VW tranny for mid-engine? Any machining involved?

30"s is too long.Back to transaxles.

The thing that sucks about flipping the ring gear on a VW is then I'd be putting power to the coast side of the gear.I don't like that.My dad had one of these cars when I was a kid with a VW chassis and Corvair engine.Car flew, but he always told me he couldn't do burnouts or he would bust the gear.He changed the transaxle a few times.hehe

I think you have to grind the case a bit also.Nothing major.

I think for now I'm going to roll with the Corvair trans.I have two.I'll use the A535 Dakota bell and make a new adapter plate. Then I won't have to get crazy when it comes to CV joints and half shafts. If it doesn't work out I can always upgrade then.It is a tube frame kit car,I can make those changes.

Hey guys, I'm purchasing Nvr2Old's 77 SpitFire with the NV2500. I've read through this thread and have come to the conclusion that the only 5 speed that will actually fit into the 77 Spitfire is the NV2500 however I would like to upgrade. Is there an auto tranny out there that might be able to fit? Any idea on if a Turbo Supra Auto tranny will work? Thanks.

i have 2 bellhousings one is a dakota a535 2.2 bell and other is a 03 jeep liberty/wrangler 2.4 bell... if anyone is interested in them let me know. speedy5131981@yahoo.com i played around with rwd conversion ideas. basically was going to use a turbo 2.2, the dak bell (5 1/8) center. Overdrive np833 trans (5 1/8 brng retainer) weld and redrill bellhousing then use turbo 2.2 flywheel and i believe 3.9 v6 clutch and pressure plate
