If you are talking about the Dodge Dakotas. That V6 is a 3.9L and completely unrelated to the 3.3/3.8L in the cars. The 3.9L is basically a 318ci with two cylinders removed.

3.8s in AWD vans were still transverse mount and the tranny was a modified FWD.Still not a RWD.

if you have a fwd application, you can go to a stick trans by finding a rare stratus with the 2.7 v6 and 5spd......same bolt pattern as the 3.3/3.5/3.8

The 3.8L is RWD in the newer Jeep JK Wrangler's. They come with a 6 speed transmission, the NSG 370.

I know how the van engine was placed, and that wouldnt be much of an issue as far as AWD goes, and thanks for the rwd tranny info... all that being said that is the same 3.8 that is in the vans right? so in turn would be able to have the 3.5l engine mounted too it right? also is the 3.8l just a bigger bore or is also a longer stroke engine? cause if that the case would the 3.5l heads in theory mount to the 3.8 block? i know that its push rod engine and the 3.5l is DOHC, but im jsut trying to get it all together before i jump to making any real decisions, even though the 3.5l i have is running engine, and getting a 3.8l short block would require extra money being spent, and also hoping that the one i get is in at aleast as good a shape as the one i got already... anway enough rambling, thats for the tranny info, and ill look into it a little more

The 3.8L in the Jeep Jk is a pushrod engine. However, the latest version found in the Dodge Nitro is 4.0L and SOHC as well.

07-08 DODGE NITRO OEM 4.0L ENGINE ASSEMBLY:eBay Motors (item 230393343137 end time Nov-27-09 12:30:46 PST)

From what I'm reading, they are the same family.

3.5+RWD=Plymouth Prowler! How quickly we forget! :(

The 3.5 and 4.0 are derivatives of the 3.3/3.8 family, and bottom end parts can be physically swapped(for instance the 3.5 crank I know can go in to a 3.3), but I think that's where it ends. I know that the 3.5's have things like cross bolted mains and one heck of an aluminum front plate with water pump and such. Those are things that I've never seen on a 3.3 or 3.8.

I know the new 4.0 is a derivation of the 3.5, but I don't think that the parts from either will readily work on the older pushrod 3.3/3.8. I would be way off base here, but I just don't think so. The 3.5 is also a much wider engine than either the 3.3/3.8. Those were narrow V 6-bangers because of their intended use in cramped transverse FWD applications. The 3.5 was always mounted longitudinally from what I recall.

Just some observations....
