1989 A604 (mopar reman I think), behind 3.0, in a Rampage.

Im planning on boosting the engine (probably 10 - 15 PSI).
Besides a *BIG* cooler & shift kit, & later TCM, what else should I do to keep all the pieces inside the case??
Will blocking the accumulators out help the loooong, sloppy shifts or just piss off the computer??

mine shifts quick, you may already have a issue in there. The computer will make it shift quick when it needs to. but yes, boosting it will prolly piss off the tcm and so will blocking off the accumulators.

Rebuild it with all clearances on the tightest side the spec. Do not mess with the accumulators, get the shift kit for it. Replace the clutches with kevlar units. Run a HUGE cooler.

Sorry, no part numbers offhand. Might be able to get some off of the chrysler3liter list.

It would be nice if we could rig up some momentary contact switches to manually shift the 604. Like the old pushbutton 727 Race Hemi Super Stocks of the 60's.

4 buttons (6 if you count Neutral and Reverse), plus an arm / disarm switch. Manual control it for racing, normal shift mode for just cruising around.

I wonder if that could be done. Manually control the solenoids like that.

Some guy on allpar forums recently had a performance A604 built for himself, these are the specs. that he had the tranny shop do :

-Limited Slip Differential (Phanton Grip- part #904-GOLD)- $300 USD
-Transtar High Energy Rebuild/Overhaul kit - this is the kit with kelvar based clutches (Transtar- part#K7200H)- $193 USD
-Differenal Safety Pins (Transtar part#72984), need 2- $10 USD total
-Shift Kit (Transtar part#K72908J)- $26 USD
-Booster Valve Upgrade (transtar part#7028V)- $15 USD
-Final Drive Gears to a 1999 2.0 Stratus A604 (see local junk yard)- $100 USD
-2500rpm high stall torque converter (Exile Racing part#ERT2500TC)-$270 USD
-Rear Planetary Carrier- racing spec (Transtar part#48762T)- ? USD
-Racing Output Shaft Gear (Transtar part#72963)- ? USD
-Racing Kit for Transfer Shaft (Transtar part#K72965)- ? USD
-Racing Transfer Shaft Gear (Transtar part#72967)- ? USD
-Racing differential Bearing (Transtar part#K48761)- ? USD
-5 pinion planetaries (update chrysler part)
-Any updated dealer parts not listed above

In the end he ended up paying about $2000 all together but there still isnt a performance tcm, so it may have been a waste of money if he cant change the shift points....

Seems like you would just need the controller and some other bits out of an Autostick equipped car.

Nah, it couldn't be that easy......
