so today i decided to weigh a stock crankshaft from a 3.0 sohc motor from a duster and a stock crankshaft from a TT 3000gt and here are the results

cyrsler crankshaft: 29lbs
mitsu crankshaft: 37lbs

this was done on my bathroom scale so its probably not that precise but you get the idea. they are pretty identical to look at and the TT crankshaft will work in the chrysler sohc motor.

yes, that's static weight. now start rotating that thing 6000rpms and see just how much power it will take to spin it compaired to the stock "cast" crank.

I for one am not going to use a forged crank (while I keep the motor a 3.0L) due to the added weight. But, if I go with a stroked motor, using the heavier/stronger crank would probably be an added bonus.

Just a thought,

If you make 1100 crank hp you might break a cast crank. .

Oh, none of us do cause we are al pussies.

In the meantime lots of accelleration lost by using the heavier crank, especially in an n/a motor. That is a LOT of weight. Good information though, thanks. i have always wondered the exact weights. You will need Aftermarket Rods well before you need something besides the cast crank. I am actually hoping I dont bend a rod even though they have been shot peened. :P
