52mm question.....

Finally got time to toss the 52mm TB on my 91 3.0 Daytona. I pulled this TB from a 92 3.3 Dynasty....and I was wondering about the sensors. Could I have just kept the 3.3 sensors in there, or did I really need to swap the 3.0 sensors into the 52mm TB?
Reason I'm asking is, I'm getting a little idle fluxuation, and I suspect the AIS may be the cause. I cleaned the 52mm, as well as the AIS before swapping, and I noticed the the stock 3.0 AIS is slightly different than the stock 3.3 AIS. They seemed to swap out just fine, but I'm a little curious as to whether the 3.3 AIS should have been put back into my 52mm instead of the old 3.0 one.

Any thoughts?

It's not really a big deal ,and it's even possible that the idle fluxuation will go away after a few more key cycles...but it bugs me.

Thanks,
Mike (440trk)

The larger TB will take a while for the ECU to compensate. It now has to control the AIS motor even more carefully or it will be too high, then low, etc. Also Manifold pressures at a particular Throttle position will have to be relearned so it can run better in open loop mode.

When I put a 52mm TB on Daytonastein, it went through a period of idle oscillations. That disappears pretty quickly...

The AIS stays with the TB, You put the TPS for your particular vehicle on. The 46 & 58mm TB's have different pintle sizes, so you need to use the one that came with the vehicle...

The TPS sensors have slightly different configurations of wiring harness connector. So you need the one for your specific vehicle...

the ais for your car is smaller, you will need to use the ais on the 52mm one.

A 3.0 52mm TB has a 52mm AIS, 46mm TPS.

The factory stock 3.0 52mm TB's on the old 3.0 motors (87-88) are basically a hybrid like we make out of the 3.3 52mm TB.

I do use a 52mm ais on my 58mm TB.........I have the correct AIS but I dont have the harness plug that goes into it. It doesnt cause a problem like using the 46mm ais on the 52mm tb does.

Okie Dokie....so I need to swap the 3.3 AIS back into the TB. Easy enough.

Will any harm be done by running the 46mm AIS on the 52mm for a few days?

Thanks!

It's idiot proof. If the harness fits the sensor, it should work.

Well technically, BOTH sensors fit ....but the stock 52mm 3.3 AIS definitly works better than the 46mm AIS! Car is idling just fine now.

Thanks!

if u look closely, the 53mm one is a little longer and has a bigger "cone" end

Yea, I noticed they were different when I first pulled the 46mm one out....but for some reason, I thought I needed to swap the 46mm one on there. Fortuneately, all is well now.

Many thanks!
