One thing to keep in mind

advertised HP ratings and real HP raitings.

The 160hp 3000gt 12valve stealths dyno 135-150hp on a manual trans. The dohc "225hp"motors dyno 165-175whp. Sohc 24v motors make less power then the dohc motors.

Josh, sean, I and a few others have sohc 3.0's that are making n/a 1/4 runs that calculate out to 180-190+whp.
Modded dohc motors make 185-195whp. If you put $3000 into the motor (aka ported dohc heads, cams, cam gears, and lots of other expensive stuff) then Ive seen one person dyno 210whp.

So, for $500 in smart mods you can make a sohc make 180whp. That is 40whp more then the advertised HP on our chrysler motors.

For $3000 you can make 15whp less then advertised HP on a dohc motor.

The dohc motor is great.....sohc 24v can be great also.........but a plain 3.0Liter sohc/dohc 24valve isnt going to make you fast. If you have bigger goals that include turbo/super then it would be fun.

another thing to look at is that if you can score a 2000+ eclipe engine (crank rated at 205/205, dynoed at 175-185 stock trim) and have about $400 and some time to spare, Get a Megasquirt. with minor mods t othe ecipse variant, 200WHP is not that far off. a SA-ECU with a tune, headers and a CAI will probably get you that extra 30+hp.

this is the route i am on with my 3.0 duster/shadow. the tranny bolts up (all major bolts) and the engine lines up perfectly save for the different passenger side mount. the Megasquirt ECU should also save you in wiring hassles and garner good performance gains and the added benefit uf being fully programmable, EDIS capable etc (see megasquirt.info for the whole rundown)

well thats my .02 lol GL in any case

24v v6's make 200whp with headers, exhaust, etc etc etc.
For the cost, you might as well turbo something.

I agree w/ Brent here. Simlify by making use out of what you have rather than invest in something new when you could be beyond that power rating for the same cost of the swap and a few bolt ons.

10:1 and 24v with only 3.0 L displacement will maybe give you a 10whp advantage over a sohc with the same mods unless you start reving to 8000 rpms.
