The hope is that because e85 runs much cooler then gasoline, that more boost can be pushed before the rings butt and pop off a ringland.
My friend who is an e85 guy thinks I will lift heads before that happens :P
Racing tomorrow. Will see how things turn out.
My friends preferred compression level for e85 is 12:1!!!!!! I dont think 12:1 pistons would be good for combustion on our motors so the most I would ever do is flat top and I worry that e85 will go "defunkt" and I don't want to build an engine for a fuel that is hard to get.

Bone stock shortblock, heads, cams.
16psi (stopped turning it up cause we need more fuel flow with e85).

I nailed the 1-2 then... sucked the 3-4 but you see the results with mediocre driving. Got booted cause they found a drop of oil at the timing booth and I had forgotten about the fact that the motor has a bunch of leaky seals (even with no boost) and I couldn't fix them all in the pits. For the road I dont even care about a few drips but I don't want to piss off the track crew so I didnt just wipe it down and run again. I figure they can't really forget my car.

The 1-2 shift is almost all of the e.t. improvement.

Great run!! Is the 2-3 shift a problem?
If so, staggering the neutral gate may help. It gives a larger window to get across from 2nd to 3rd. The 3-4 shift problem may be internal, synchro rings, damaged teeth, etc.
These trannys are not very quick shifting and that is a key to low ETs. You have the HP to go quicker.

Its actually a really good shifting trans. Just nerves making me "chicken" to row the gears. I still can't get used to it. The G forces today really tripped me out, especially after 3rd gear I fumbled for 4th and sorta forgot what i was doing, let out the throttle, then was just hoping that yanking on the shifter would get in the right gear. I think I was already excited cause i knew I nailed the first shift ( I could FEEL it) and then it was downhill from there. I did the Jitterbug.
This trans has never complained about a 6200rpm powershift 3-4 on the freeway when racing the 400+hp cars on video....I just havent really done one of those shifts in 5 months. Even a quick lift shift would be good but I was fumbling for 4th and slow on 3rd. Thats why you dont hear the limiter on the 1-2 but you do on the 2-3. I was much slower. And I think thats where a lot of E.T. is hiding. I also never did my alignment and I am sure I am lacking in that department. I want 1.6 60's or better.

A small tip when you shift, apply force to the shifter before you hit the clutch. It is faster then trying to time arm & foot movements.

Nice run! Very impressive on a stock block. Wonder how much abuse it can take before the rings go. It'll be interesting to see if the lower temps from E85 will keep the engine alive, or if it'll just temporarily extend its life

As I said in another place...congrats!

You've proven what I've been saying for over a decade...the 3.0 is a VERY good engine and has a lot of hidden potential that almost nobody gives it credit for!

Thats what the 9 second honda guys here say. I can do it in my Spirit but its really hard for me to do things right in this car. I am still not used to being thrown back in the seat when the slicks grab each gear. Its totally unlike anything I ever feel on the street. Thats why we all need awd! :P

Anyone ever had a leaky cam seal on an old motor? I get lots of oil coming out below the distributor. Looks like someone replaced the plug on the end of the head but they didnt RTV the rocker arm assembly to the head like OEM does and I doubt they changed the cam seal. This motor was caked with oil when I bought it.
I once had my distributor cam seal leak but thats because I installed it improperly and it was more like a "gush" of oil :P

WOW!

Looks like a stock 3.0, with enough boost, is nothing to sneeze at.

WTG!

I almost would rather build a V6 3.0 than a traditional 4 cylinder TD. lol
