Well I actually got it apart.

Front cam seized, my new pin was stronger then the timing belt, and it shreded the timing belt. I think there is a problem with oiling on my outer journals on the front rocker assembly.

First, I need to decide if I will buy a new cometic, or spray the old one with some of that sealer stuff.

Then I have to see if I can get someone to fix the journals. I dont want to report the head and get new seatwork done.

Actual pictures of what happened.

I have 2 journals that are sorta bad, but this was a perfect journal. it almost seems like the diamante cam was slightly too large.

Im hoping someone can tell me what my next course of action should be. Im guessing I need to get the cam diameters checked out. Then Im worried about the head journal that is unhappy. Im not sure why this happened. Doesnt the cam ride on a slick of oil? How tight does the clearance need to be here? Just seeing if I can avoid pulling the head. The rocker arm didnt lose any material. It looks like the diamante cam just dug away at the head and deposited its leftovers onto the rocker. I thought I was getting improper oiling, but even this journal was getting oil.

This is the thrust journal so I guess that has some sort of importance......

Looks like it's time for an align bore of the cam journals and a good polishing of the cams.

They might be doing this due to the new grind. But who knows. Just get yourself a good micrometer and get those heads back into shape.

has anyone even used a diamante cam before? i know its a rumor that they will work but it sounds to me like the fitment isnt right. maybe check the thickness of the cam w/ a micrometer and compare it w/ the old cams. only other rhing i can think of is it was torqued wrong.

Take the night off dear Brent. Let yourself recuperate a bit. You can see it more clearly with fresh eyes tomorrow. Just tell anyone who asks that I said you could.

This will all work out perfect in the end. You know it will.

#1 check the run-out of the cam journals.

#2 check the diameter of the cam journals and compare with service limits in the FSM.

#3 I *think* that can be fixed by a good head shop. The cam journals need to be resized, or have bearing shells put in them(seen that done on a TD head in person...really neat). Because of all the work that has been done to the heads I think that they need to possibly be checked for warping and they may possibly need to be re-heat treated. The alignment of the cam journals needs to be perfectly parallel to the head deck surface. If something didn't go right when you torqued the heads down enough deflection *could* have happened to couse the journal to bind(and also the oil leak). I'd say the block deck also needs to be checked for trueness.

Make sure the alignment dowel isn't holding the head off the block!!!

I hate to see you have to go through all this. I know it HAS to suck. Just know that we are supporting you! Keep us informed....

Took it to a machinist here who is supposed to be good with this problem.

he thinks a piece of metal got in the journal after my first problems with the head that damaged the outer journals.

We are resizing them. I will be out of town when they get done so I wont get them till after labor day.
Im mostly hoping that the cam journal isnt damaged beyond use.

When I go to my parents house for school break, I will work on My custom intake manifold, and my megasquirt.

If I can finish the manifold, then at least I will have a cool looking motor when it finally runs. Probaly the most annoying thing will be the fuel rail and fuel injector bosses. I am going to have to modify the bosses with JB weld to fit ford injectors.

For fuel rail, I am taking 2x 3.3L fuel rails, and cutting them in half, then using the one side from each that doesnt have a regulator on it. Then turn them into parallel rails.

Well I have had the heads apart a million times. I know why it was the front head that went. There was metal in the front head from a previous problem that the rear head never had.
