Ahhhh, yea. That was something you and I forgot about when we were going through the math that night. Too bad you didn't take the old vs new valve lengths.

I would just remove the shims altogether. It seems like with the longer valve and the fact the lifters have some adjustment, just leave them out.

Well I know it ran well with 1 washer so Im gonna go back to that.

I think it makes sense if both the intake and exhaust valves were open .050"+ that I was not getting any compression, especially since the piston isnt moving very fast.

haha. Yeah but you didnt know why!!!

Got the car back together, put some 91 octane in (it only had 85 octane in but 7:1 compression didnt mind 6psi boost). I dont see a reason to push my luck with all the problems.

I figured its too cold to try to do anything more tonight. I still have to get oil pressure, and also confirm Im getting compression.

Didn't have to know the root cause of why. It worked before you added the new washers, and didn't after. There were no other real changes.

Kinda left only one thing......lol

Well, how did it run?

I havent even tried to turn it over yet. I decided I was tired of being cold. Today ive been doing church and other stuff.

Anyways the shims were technically correct on a stock valve setup :P

I just didnt remember why it didnt work.

Yeah, I just forgot why I needed that and was worried I might damage the valvetrain with extra slack.

Okay for anyone interested.

When i first assembled the motor, compression test with 7:1 static compression was 90 psi.

after my 10 minute drive which nuked the bearings 2 months ago.

I now get 112 psi (at least on the cylinder I tested).

Anyways Im realy happy cause just that 10 min drive seems to have goten the rings fairly seated. Mind you I was being the piss out of it the first 6 minutes :P

Edit: Blah blah ignore the stuff about the oil pressure in this thread since its fixed

Oh yeah and ive been cranking it over like crazy and no oil pressure.

I kept removing the oil filter and putting more oil in it. Now its full........I really hate waiting for this. I dont like holding the clutch in because thats not good for the thrust bearings or the diaphram on the PP.

I need to ground the clutch safety switch correctly (permanently like my spirit which doesnt have 5 speed wiring harness).
Edit: well I just too a small piece of wire, stripped the ends, then bent it in half. Inserted it into the wiring harness........and no more clutch safety switch......woot.

still no oil pressure

scratch that. We have oil pressure.

I had to pull a plug on the oil pump and feed it some oil into it so it wouldnt just suck air.
