2nd coat on. Im having some dust issues so I guess I might try wet sanding some of this after a few more coats to see what it looks like (and see if I should bother with the rest of the car later)

Edit:and im gonna change the paint thinner ratio :P

Well this new ratio of paint to thinner worked a lot better. Im gonna put 1 more coat on (the 4th) and be done. Then Im gonna work on finishing the motor assembly and Building the handbrake setup (not sure how its gonna work yet).

Edit: finished the 4th coat. It only took me 30 minutes which makes me feel stupid my first coat took like 3+ hours to figure out lol.

There's somebody that's outlined a handbrake conversion for P-bodies on here already...I dunno if the car ever got finished, but I know it's out there!

I did that to my Sundance before I scapped it. It actually worked but looked stupid because I had no spot for the handbrake on my console

So I sorta built a handbrake. It has plenty of crappiness to go along with it but it sorta works. I need to stiffen up its foundation :P......also im having problems with balancing the rear brakes. The passenger side rear emergency brake also seems to be sticking...Ive never used the emergency brake in this car (well it wasnt working before I pulled the footbrake).

My biggest problem right now is the linkage is rubbing the chassis near the handbrake. I think i will try to make some sort of cradel that it can rub against without metal to metal contact.
The black stuff is tape and its not working. The inside of that car is such a mess. Ive even got wood sitting in there that I used to block the tires since it had no Emergency brake.

As you can see I also lifted the shifter about 8" or so. The shifter was cut...and I couldnt even reach it. Now its right next to the steering wheel. My spirit has its shifter on electrical boxes but not quite so high. Makes shifting a lot nicer.

Here is the next project ( I think... )
I had the valve reliefs cut back because the valves were scraping them when I set the cam timing. Im gonna remove the shims from the lifters when I get it all apart (i think there is 1 or 2 shims) and Im gonna just see how she runs without....im guessing the valves would not have touched the pistons if I had no lifter shim but who knows. Now it wont be an issue.
Oh...and Im gonna torque the head bolts to 90 ft/lb this time since thats what the OEM turbo dohc heads ask for.

wanna see a better pic? I still have yet to finish/perfect the merging of the 91 Lebarron center counsole and the stock 89 Spirit counsole. I just used those parts and got new cables for a 91 rear disc car. I just removed the shifter base, and installed the new 91+ Lebarron/Tona one(since those are the only cars w/ an auto and handbrake)

i wanted to do a shadow/duster also but one of the drawbacks was the handbrake. i like the interior of the daytona better w/ the handbrake, rear bucket seats, instrument panel cluster, front seats etc... but i like the shadow for the weight. exteriors i like both cars. the daytona is pretty sleek and good aerodynamics but the shadow has that unique look (kinda like a smaller vesrion of the fox body stang). i have owned 2 daytonas and a duster and as far as the exterior is concerned, i can never pick a favorite.

i really like the shifter set-up though! is it tougher to put into gear since its been cut so short you must have lost a lot of leverage.

Yes it is harder to shift, but I learned to drive the spirit with a cut shifter (cut 3" by the previous owner of the shifter). I bought parts from a member long ago before I knew what I was really doing....then did a 5 speed swap.

Reverse is annoying....but I have a stock shifter in my spirit now (traded from duster) and it annoys me in all the other gears with how far I have to shift.

The shifter assembly is different from mine for sure...where the bushing is where the shifter goes in...on my daytona is on the opposite site. Hmm just noticed that. Nice work brent.
