I put my stupid hat back on and there is something preventing the starter from turning over
I push the key, brake light turns on, and nothing. Only codes are 31 (egr) and 37 (torque converter since I have the lower rev limit auto computer in the duster temporarilly).

Yay. I hate this part of cars.

Relay is good. It works when I swap it to the spirit. I guess I can bust out the multimeter or something.

EDIT:
I am stupid. i forgot to plug in this small green conector.
(i have the nuetural switch permanently grounded so I dont hurt the thrust bearings on startup)

I figure out something cool. If you have the ignition turned on...you stick a wire into the emergency brake ground...then stick the other end of that wire into the large yellow wire on the 5 wire small green conector. the starter will turn over by it self (NO KEY TURN but the ignition is turned on).

Video coming soon. the muffler kills all the turbo sound lol.

There were some rattling sounds so I am paranoid again I shut it off but this time it had 90+psi cold oil pressure not 8psi warm.

Im worried something is knocking again. Its a pretty loud sound. Audible on the video.
That or I could have a lifter etc that is misbehaving but that seems sorta strange.

Video - First cold start on the lastest rebuild. Not sure if that sound is rod knock etc.
Done optimizing...

To help compare...

Here is the old video of when I knew it was knocking on at least the main bearings
Video - Thinking the motor spun a bearing but when I restarded it to make this video the clunking sound wasnt happening. The quiet tapping may be the HLA's working away on the big cam. Not sure why it didnt clunk again. Im gonna pull the oil filter a

here is the last rebuild before I heard it knocking clearly
Video - Cam'd & built sohc 6g72 with t67 First start after tearing apart the shortblock a month or so ago.

Note the last 2 videos dont have a muffler at all.

I should add that the tranny has idler gear rattle and I didnt try putting the clutch in to see if the sound changed.

I also didnt feel the intake manifold. usually I can feel knock very strongly in the manifold.

previous motor didnt knock till the oil warmed up (obviously if the bearing was already destroyed then it would knock on startup but the bearings should have been intact. No way it could have that much clearance right on startup).
I did also remove the shims in the lifters as after some of the talk a few of us had regarding my longer valve stems, I figured I didnt need them. Throwing things out there.

That sounds like either top end noise or tranny related noise. It's not rod I don't beleive, it's not low pitched enough and it's too random. It kinda sounds like lifters or followers, but it's sounds stronger on the tranny side. You said the tranny makes noise and you didn't push the clutch in...I'd liek to know what happens when you do...it *could* be something tranny side...possibly TOB or pressure plate...

I concur. It definately sounds like a lifter/lash adjuster or a rocker. It's too intermittant to be a rod or piston. It's also more of a tick-tick-tick, instead of a knock. At least that what my ears are telling me.

I say just run it for a while, get it warm, and run the rpms up to see if things quiet down when the oil thins out a bit.

I wont start it again till thursday after my last final.
The only thing that calmed my nerves was listening to the old videos where the knock is obvious.

I was sooo paranoid when I started it up I just expected a bearing issue.

My 179K mile V6 always has a lifter tap when I cold start it in the morning. After a few minutes it goes away.

Pardon me for not having read the last 53 pages, but I remember hearing that forged pistons can sometimes be noisy while they are cold. Have you had it fully warmed up? Were the lifters brand new? Sometimes they take a bit to pump up. That engine sounds good!

I really ant to do a turbo V6 now...
