Well I looked up the status of my battery order and it was backordered...
Called in and they were out of a bunch of batteries but they had the oddessy pc680 metal jacket (tiny bit better and the metal jacket is suggested for car applications yet I dont think it matters at all) with a $20 dollar rebate so this battery costs $3 more but its better I guess.
2 day air so it should show up on wed. Not exactly perfect for me as they have test and tunes this wed night (test and tunes are rare here cause this track management = lazy bums) and i wanted to practice before these big import races on Saturday.

What's the big deal about a battery?

Go to Advance Auto Parts, K-Mart, or Wal-Mart with $60 or $70 and grab a battery, all done. It doesn't have to be some super duper high tech battery that lasts 6 months longer at twice the price.

Looking forward to seeing more video of the car running and running hard on the street!

The Odessey PC680 is smaller than a tractor battery, lighter, and has more CCA. I have one too and I LOVE it!!!

Battery needs to be a certain size to fit in the fender.

Hawker Odyssey PC680MJ 0769-2017 Sealed Lead Acid Batteries at Portable Power Systems

Same thing just has "metal jacket"
just makes it weigh more. I have the battery mounted outside the engine bay in the fender so I dont think it matters.

Ahh this car is pissing me off.

After swapping in the new battery, my fuel pump is not turning on. I swapped relays and that mad no difference. I dont know how to track down this problem.
Turn the key and no fuel pump prime
The wiring diagrams dont really give me an idea of how to test and I cant really test unless someone (who isnt here) is turning the key back and forth.

I don't know how the car is wired, but if it is factory, then make sure that when the key is first turned on there is 12V at the positive coil and positive injector harness sides. If there is, then you need to see if there is 12V at the pump in the back. If so, you fired the pump somehow. If not, then you have a wiring issue somewhere else in the car. If there is not 12V when the key is first turned on at the coil and injecotr harness, then you need to start checking fusible links and making sure that the SBEC is sending the signal to the ASD to turn on....

Good luck!

Man, you have some bad luck, the car has a manual right? Is it in Nuetral for the saftey switch?

otherwise need to put the car in 'start' position and try to measure voltage at the fuel pump connector. 87turbodance can probably hook you up with the diagram. It looks like the positive side should be a dk grn-blk wire, but can't tell for sure.

well I took 12v directly from jumper cables to the fuel pump and it did nothing.
I am getting power from the red/white wires that go to the fuel pump relay.
Kinda a pain to put the car in "start" when my roomates are gone.

well...if you hotwired the pump and nothing happened...*shrugs* that answers that part of it..now you need to make sure there was no other damage to the wiring. I personally wouldn't put a new expensive pump in it quite yet until you know the rest is OK. I don't know what kind of fuel pressures you're running, or have run, but that *could* have contributed to a premature pump failer...

Just throwing ideas out there...

fuel pressures have probably never been over 70 psi..and the pump is made for 120ish.
Im not really sure how to check things.

Im real pissed that the pump died 2 days before this race.

I talked to Simon (turbovanman) and it seems very likely that when the battery shorted it fried part of the electric motor. WHen it stopped it stopped on a good spot in the motor..thats why I was able to jump the duster and drive it home. This time it stopped on a bad spot. I could probably bang it around and make it work (get it to turn to a good spot on the motor) but its damaged anyways and that would be really stupid to do.
