are 6G72 trannies univeral. Well not universal but are they like the 2.2's trannies where different cars trannies can be swapped. My mom has a grand caravan with the 6G72 engine which apparently is rare because nobody around here can find the tranny. The mechanic says that you can't but he's kindof a dipshit so I need a second opinion.

i'm assuming it is auto cause
1. it is a grand caravan and
2. you are asking about a transmission for the 3.0
The autos are junk not so much the 3 spd. but the 4 spd is. They are not rare, it is just hardto find a working transmission. most of them get sent to the yard b/c of the tranny, the engine is great. You will need to find another tranny from a 3.0 b/c of the water inlet pipe. good luck and if u want try www.car-part.com, there are a lot of yards on there

if your mom doesnt mind driving a stick.. have it converted to a 5spd... that would eliminate your transmission problem... i beat the snot out of my 3.0/5spd combo and the transmission is still smooth as butter.

+1 on that, and for something even better, put 568 internals in it.:-)

or just find a good A670 3 spd. I doubt anyones mother would need 568 internals in a A543.

the 6G72 bolt pattern is 100% mitsu, so the other 6G72 trannies will bolt up, ive seen a tibby 6sp on a 6G72 as well. in that case, just about ANY 6G72 or 6G72 derived tranny will bolt up, whether its from an eclipse, diamante, galant, sonata, tibby, 3KGT, etc

Anyways, the localy JY's are wanting around 800 for one, ill go $350 OBO if you are intrested. PM me and Ill get you my phone #.

I keep seeing a LOT of this missinformation on here. The A604 is NOT a junk tranny. STOP preaching this! It is a matter of opinion and personal experience. Built and cared for propperly they will last a good service life, AND they can hold a good amount of power. They get better milage than an A670 also.

A568 gears are NOT needed in A543's unless you are looking for different gear ratios. Open one up one time and take a look...you'll see what I mean. There are VERY few people that could even take advantage of the A568 strenght advantage(wich comes from heat treating and a VERY slight pitch change on the teeth). The higher FD is not an advantage to the V6 due to its already prodigious torque down low. I'd even suggest finding a 3.5 FD to put in one over the 3.77. If you're worried about the diff, #1 STOP doing peg leg burn outs, #2 use diff pin savers, or #3 use some sort of traction control device, you CAN put Quaifes in these trannies!
