I sent him another e-mail saying how I measured the cylinder bores and pistons were measured for out-of-round and the results were fine.

ok, I actually read what the thread is about, bummer! How long have you been driving it? I know some HG replacements can smoke for a long period of time, but it sounds like you've dealt with this particular issue before : (.

He is dealing with a complete rebuilt motor. He broke in the motor properly. He even put the pistons in the correct direction j/k.

Good luck Pete. It sounds like the seller has given you the first of several refusal emails.

Yeah I'm not expecting anything good from him. Oh well, I'll keep you posted anyway.

Pete,

When you pull the heads, check to see if the guides have been knurled, or if they have the circlips installed.

i'm sorry you have had to endure this experience.

i know my 3.0 smoked for a bit when i rebuilt it, but it went away.

oh, do you have all the paperwork from the parts/labor/acid dipping? perhaps if you send copies of those to them, they will take that into consideration? i'm thinking it may help build your case, as anyone can just *say* they did all those things....

Yes, that's correct 93sundance.

His responses:

> So you are saying that you rebuilt the engine?
>
> Cylinder bores or pistons cannot be checked in the block.
>
> I have only rebuilt and sold about 300,000 heads and rebuilt about 20,000
> engines in the last 20 years, but what do I know?

What do the spark plugs look like?

Is the PVC system working properly? It can be pulling oil into the chambers.

Did you break in the rings properly?

What are the compression readings?

What a *****.

My response:

Look, I'm not giving you sass here. Not once did I doubt your intelligence. I measured the cylinder bores with a dial indicator, and the pistons with a mircometer. The PCV system is brand new, and the motor is dead stock. This is not my first engine rebuild.

I broke the rings in with these instructions:
http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

I'll post pictures of the spark plugs if you'd like.

Pete

(It was actually my first engine rebuild, I know what I'm doing).

I think that was good call on your part. I have never doubted either your expertise or your intelligence. That is for sure. His site looks very snake oily to me, but from what little I read, his ideas seem very sound. What do you think about his porting ideas though?

Try to look at it this way. My finished project, stupid minivan, will at least be good for some major hooting and belly laughs when I am done, and I may even wind up surprising you guys. It could happen.
