My rebuilt 3.0 (REFURBISHED FRIGGIN HEADS) has the valve guide problem. It lets out a nice cloud when I start it.

Now I look like a friggin idiot everywhere I go. Paid ****ing $250 for those things.

Damn it.

A few years ago I got some referbished heads on ebay. I paid $230 shipped. They worked perfect for 2 years, until I swapped em with some ported and polished ones. The seller was selling lots of them with a buy it now price. Maybe you should see if he is still selling them.

I e-mailed that clown who sold me the heads. Hopefully I'll get a response tonight.

Since that ebay seller has such a good rep I think he will probably make things right.

I hope he does too.

Best of luck.

Pete, this would be a great time to port and polish the new set of heads before they go on. Hit the manifolds too....

You might want to talk to a machine shop about the guides. I know some shops are downright decent. my shop didnt charge much at all.

Pete,

Have you removed the heads yet and verified what the problem is?

I'm still waiting for the guy to e-mail me back. I'm not hoping for a refund, just an explanation.

E-mail from the seller:

Our heads are exactly as described, as are the parts installed. It is
> obvious that your rings are shot since it smokes under deceleration. If you have
> been driving the vehicle a long time with the bad guides you that all of the
> carbon build up will cause the rings to stick. That is a common problem.
>
> All of the lifters are bench bleed and should be noisy under the first start
> up. Once they have a full load of oil and correct pressure they should be
> fine. There can be air trapped in the oiling system and cause some of them not
> to pump up. There is a procedure for eliminating that also. Driving it that
> way can ruin the plunger in the lifter itself.
>
> Let me know if we can be of help.

My response:

I understand what you mean, but I know that the rotating assembly is in perfect condition. The engine has been rebuilt including new rings, main bearings, rod bearings, core plugs, oil pump, and water pump. I had the block acid dipped to have all the oil and coolant passages cleared of any crud that could have caked onto the walls. This is on my 1995 Plymouth Voyager 5-speed. Compression is good across the board.
