Has anyone seen the map sensor for a 3.3/3.8 for the 96+ minivans? What's very odd is that it threads to the manifold. What is even more perplexing is that our MAPS vac nipple has the same damn thread size. Diameter and pitch are exact. I only know this because I tried one on my car. Hell, the damn thing works the same. The pigtail is the same and everything. They look nothing alike though and you'd never think unless you compared w/ the nipple that they'd work. Strange sh**.

That sounds like a real improvement to me. It makes no sense to rely on a vac hose connecting the MAP to the plenum. Maybe the old MAP could not have taken the added heat of being directly connected?

Allpar minivans, is filled with posts, about people having the exact same symptoms Ed's Caravan had in OK. It's all the hot weather trashing their MAPs I am certain.

I got to get me one of those new MAPs. More heat resistant I bet, and there is one less vac hose to wear out also. I hope they have one like that for the 3.0L.

Thanks for the great info Dusty. Wow! Are you ever helpful.

i've tried them and they do work. you can get them from any of the 3.3 engines and early 3.8 engines. they use one also on the 3.5 engine but it is aparently calibrated diff cause i got 3 3.5 map sensors and they all made my car sluggish an ping yet the 3.3 and 3.8 units didn't.

Actually, it must've been off a pre 96 3.3/3.8 engine although the car might have been from 1996. From what I know, the 96+ used a different MAP sensor on the front of the plenum near the TB neck that bolted into the plenum. The pre 96 (95 and under) will thread into the plenum and is shaped kind of like a box.

Interested x2, curious about playing with the 3.3/3.8 ones for normal use, and also curious about maybe rigging in a 3.5 one on a switch, for when gas is $$$$$$ again, I'm thinking it runs it lean, so if I get it tuned up not to ping...

The 3.3's and the 3.5's also use the exact same MAP sensor. The part number for them is the same, as well as the exterior shape. You might've just gotten a bad MAP sensor.

i went a looked at the ones i got off of the 3.5's and i think ecs is right.
the 3.5 map sensors were all really really cruddy and probably bad or atleast not responsive as a clean one is.
