Hi guys,

Found this place in Australia offering 6G72 cam grinds.
http://www.rpw.com.au/shop/index.php...mart&Itemid=31
They've also got 'em for DOHC and 6G74

Ok, custom grinds are MUCH cheaper. Crower did mine for $200 with shipping.
Also, is that in Australian $$?

Yeah aussie dollars, but those are done from fresh blanks then get the full hardening treatment, not regrinds of stock profiles.

I found the page with their specs and their stage 2 gives only about the same lift as "our" cams, duration is a lot longer though. I'm thinking, well, if you just keep the stock cams and weakass valve springs, and let 'em float, you probably won't see a heck of a lot of difference on top end. I guess it makes the midrange "fatter" though.

I thought valve float was caused by high lift not duration on the cams. A longer duration shouldn't put any more stress on the spring, as the higher lift and high RPMs will.

I meant the float on stock springs at high RPM will have about the same effect as stronger springs and more duration.

Well guess we don't have float where we usually make power, but haven't heard of anyone who's left stock springs on there on a 7000rpm motor, and all the regrinds say they need better springs, so people put 'em in anyway, so I guess there's no-one who's gonna see float....

Yeah I saw that a couple of weeks ago posted somewhere else (Might have been on their website) and I figured they were gone by now, and I saw mention somewhere else there were no more billet blanks to be had in the whole of North America, so that's why I linked that site even though it's in Australia.

So, w00t, last 3 american billet cam sets for cheap!

with a cam upgrade it depends on what you put in as to wether you will see valve float. FWIW valve float is the point where the cams and engine are spinning fast enough that the valve springs dont have the time or strength to close the valve fully; in essence "floating" at a partially to fully open state. thats why when you see higher RPM motors or upgrades for more RPMs, valve springs are usually a must. but thats just my $.02 lol

There arent any upgrade springs unless you get some incredibly expensive ones from RPW and then I really doubt the product to begin with.

Ive got .450" lift and I dont believe I had any float above 5000 rpm's.

what about stock DOHC springs? IIRC the DOHC (TT motor maybe?) motor can rev to about 7500-8500 on stock internals

My machinest mentioned that there were some aftermarket Chevy (small-block?) springs that were just a hair larger in diameter. (1.4"?)

Considering the rarity of performance products and limited supply, thats not a bad price, and as mentioned, they are brand new so the base circle isn't reduced with affects valve train operation.

He had just finished the valve job and we had the heads sitting in front of us...
