Pistons, Finally!

My .100 overbore pistons arrived today from Ross! And guess what? They fit inside the head gasket w/ space to spare. Rings were included w/ the pistons and IMO, I scored a decent deal for the package. 800 bucks rings and pistons, and upgraded wrist pins. The ring package says "gapless", I wasn't even expecting that. Now the next step is to take them to my machinist so he can finally bore my block and then it's off to the cryo shop for treatment and then finishing touches, and then it's mine again. I can't wait. Except I won't be able to do anything w/ this block until I figure out my fuel supply, turbo, standalone, etc. I guess this was a big step (the block), but I have a lot to do yet. Next month the car is getting some body work, more suspension work, and a few other details.

May I point out AGAIN that these pistons FIT inside the STOCK headgasket....

nice pistons  makes me a lil jealous (24v pistons dont take boost too well  ) btw have you thought of using a Megasquirt unit for your standalone? i have one and once i get running..... *drools*

the ms units: how difficult are they to install and how much does a fairly sophisticated system cost w/ install about?

It will get dirty when you run it, lol!
MicroTech is another wicked standalone system. The rotary boys around my shop use it, they dynoed a warmed over twin turbo 300ZX, 670 WHP.
Its around $2-2500 for the kit then they can tune it on the dyno in an hour or so. Thats why I will probably go with next year, tired of burning chips and being limited.

i got my MS-II unit (kit, fully assembled ones are avail at a slightly higher cost) relay board and wires for ~$330 or so. mind you, this is NOT a plug and go unit. you need to wire all your sensors up, etc and then create your tables, etc. it may take a bit more work than other options, but for me, cost was the deciding factor. see http://www.megasquirt.info or the forums at http://www.msefi.com for more specific information. IMO with a little time researce and fiddling, this can do almost anything you want it to

I have a larger gap between my 2nd ring and my oil ring. Also my skirt is "fuller" Venolia doesnt cut out as much material around the pin bosses on the outside of the piston.
Looks like your pistons are probably quite heavy like mine.

also, check out perfect power standalone ecu. its relatively cheap but does everything the "more expensive name brand" ecu's do. they also make a great piggy back.

I checked the PPS. Looks good. I haven't decided, nor will I make any rash decisions until I am ready to drop this motor in. I just want to get an idea on price and system sophistication before hand. I'm not installing the system anyways. Either my mechanic will, or I'll be taking it to a reputable tune shop where they can adjust perameters after the install on the dyno. I like PPS. You can use the factory OBD port when a fault code appears. I'm not looking for the cheapest unit. In fact I'd spend double for a standalone if it meant making it leagues easier on myself/installer. Tomorrow I am taking the pistons to the machinist so he can finish the machining. Then it's off to cryo and back to the machinist. At the same time, I have to perform maintenence work to my current engine. I still can't get over that I DON'T NEED A CUSTOM HEADGASKET! I'm just gonna copper spray it before the install. Anyone have any opinions on the pan bolts? I was considering oversizing the thread diameter w/ helicoils, so they can hold more torque. It's gonna be fun replacing every bearing, practically every bolt, cover, seal, and gasket on this motor. Well, I am open to any opinion/criticism.
